Did you "close" on your home on or before the date of the contract?

We are supposed to close on our home on or before July 31st.

I'm so excited but some people keep telling me not to hold my breath because everyone seems to close way after their contracted date.

What were your experiences?

Our contract date was Oct. 15... we closed at the end of Oct but the sellers needed to stay there for a few days... the house was officially ours on Nov 1st.

we closed a month after contract date. however, we knew this from the onset. so in reality, we closed when expected.

We were told "on or around" May 15, it ended up being a week before. But we bought from people who were anxious to move. They were actually gone by the time we closed.

Thanks Everyone - I guess i'll just keep my fingers crossed!Chat Icon

The seller is actually building a home down south at the same time we are trying to close on this house here - so hopefully everything will happen as scheduled...

Most contracts are written to say on or about. The implied language is within 30 days of that date. This usually helps the buyer if they have trouble getting a mortgage. If you are a buyer I would strongly advise against having your atty put on or before as this leaves you open to paying for each day you are not in the house. This happened to my friend because she didn't read her contract and apparently neither did her attorney!

We received a notice we were to close June 20th. Thanks to the rainy season (the sod and final inspection werent able to get done) we're not closing till the week of July 4th which is next week.

Re: Did you "close" on your home on or before the date of the contract?

i think our contract said that we must close by sept. 30. in the beginning of the process we were told that it was probably going to be much sooner, like mid August, but then the sellers had to wait longer for the closing on their new house so we didn't close until sept. 30 anyway

Ive been through three closings and none of them closed on the date on the contract. Two of them were about 2-4 weeks after.

One was about 3 months after.

Before for me - I think we put on or about June 1st (maybe later) and we closed last week in May.
