Anyone in hospital or insurance (medical) billing? I have a question...
I was in the hospital (emergency room admit) August of 2002 for five days. I was out-of-network for both the hospital and the doctors.
To this day I still haven't gotten a bill . The only thing I ever received was a bill for $20 for the phone (which I paid immediately). I've since been married, changed my name, changed my health insurance and moved. I checked in Feb of 2004 and there were no liens on my (maiden) name or ss #.
My question is: Is there a statute of limitations on medical billing? Or can they find me at any point to tell me I owe thousands of dollars?

Theres no statute. I work for Empire BCBS, we have people calling saying they are getting bills for like 1991 BUT the fact you didnt get a bill is a good sign. My advice would be to track down your old insurance company( at that time)'s phone number and see if they received and paid the bill. We will pay an Out of network Emergency room bill with no questions, becauses its coded as ER and it doesnt matter if they are in or out of network we pay all ER charges. I have a good feeling thats what happened.

Really? So because I was admitted thru the ER they may have paid the entire thing? WOW that would be amazing. I just get nervous to 'rock the boat' and bring it up... But I'm thinking if there's any sort of lack of billing, it's probalby on the part of the hospital and not the insurance company so I guess calling the insurance company couldn't hurt.
Thanks Donna!
