Any step families out there?

Hi - I'm a LIW gal who heard about this site - and may start posting on here...

I am interested in hearing from women who do not have kids of their own, but who are stepmoms or soon to be stepmoms....

Anyone out there????

Re: Any step families out there?

Thanks - I feel I just need a support base sometimes - since I walked into instant family with no kids of my own!!!

Hi!
I've been at stepmom for about 12 years now. My DH and I just got married in November but I've been with him and his now 13 year old son since he was 1.
I'd definitely like to chat. I haven't found too many people close to my age in my situation so it would be great. Chat Icon

Re: Any step families out there?

My DH doesn't have sole custody either but the wife practically NEVER sees her son. She has 4 other children with another man though. I guess her not seeing him makes things easier in the long run but she's a looney so the once in like every 7 years that she does feel like showing up everything is in complete and utter chaos. How is your relationship with the girls? 15 is a rough age with kids in general. Like I said mine is 13 now and really testing things.

Re: Any step families out there?

I have an 18 year old son of my own & have had sole custody of him since birth & my DH has a 12 yr old daughter from his first marriage that we have joint custody of.
step-parenting & having a "blended family" is very hard-much harder than it was to raise my son alone for 15 years!

Re: Any step families out there?

Hi

I got married in August and am a step mom to a 13 yr old boy. About a month after we married, we got pregnant! Talk about an instant family!

I was actually just going to post about step families and how to handle it all ...

how are you doing w/ it?

I am also a stepmom to a now 9 year old girl. She lives with us and hardly ever sees her mother. DH and I have been married since April 2004, and I have been in my stepdaughters life since she was 6.

We are in a very similar situation, but Sidney is 10 now and we have had sole custody of her since she is 6. I meet DH when she was 5. She is starting to see her biological mom a little more frequently now.

Re: Any step families out there?

Hey ladies - I was a stepdaughter too....

I just feel that even FH doesn't get to raise her with the ideals we want for them - their mom buys them everything they want, and we can't even afford to buy them food at times, so the contrast is tough in itself, besides the fact even if we did have money, we wouldn't buy them all the stuff they get (as an example - the 9 year old got seven - SEVEN - cabbage patch dools for Xmas, a DS, clothes, toys, AND money AND Gift certs. The 15 year old got seven - lucky number I guess - of those expensive jeans, plus money, clothes, and gift certificates.) This xmas we couldnt even afford a tree, but we did manage money to get them a few things - but nothing compared to what their mom got. Mind you, she does nothing else for them except shop. the 9 yr old comes to us unbathed with filthy fingernails, but with a suitcase every weekend with clothes with tags on them. That is just an example....
