Re: Crazy question for all you mommies...
With each of my kids, I was told by my OB to cut down, if not, STOP eating fish because of it's mercury content. And I believe, based on what alot of the other ladies hear have mentioned is that the mercury content in fish has gone up, moreso than there was when I had my children.
Who knows, you may not be able to STAND the sight or smell of fish when you are pregnant! lol

Re: Crazy question for all you mommies...
Not all fish contain high levels of mercury. I ate tuna everyday of my life before I was pg. Alex is fine. I personally wouldn't postpone TTC because of this. If you are concerned talk to your Dr about it. I don't think because you eat a lot of fish that you are going to poison your baby. There are a lot of cultures that eat a diet mainly of fish and they have babies which are just fine. Start Bding and make that baby

Re: Crazy question for all you mommies...
I don't eat dairy or meat - only fish. Let me tell you, the staple of my diet is entirely fish. Fish for dinner almost every night! Not every fish has high levels of mercury - I eat almost exclusively Tilapia, Salmon and sometimes Flounder. I asked my ob about it and he said it wasn't a problem at all, and in fact, he said I'm probably better off because the tri-omega fatty acids from Salmon are supposed to be VERY good for a developing fetus... I got pregnant no problem and delivered a very healthy little girl who is making all of her developmental leaps way ahead of schedule, so I really don't think it's a problem as long as you stay away from the fishies that have high levels of mercury

From what I understand if you had mercury overload or poisoning-you would feel sluggish and not well. Also I think even mercury containing fish is safe in moderation(when not pregnant) Your body can process small levels of mercury just not large ones. If you are still nervous go to your Dr and ask to get tested for mercury levels
