Finally got an Augusten Burroughs book in my hand - read Dry (haven't read running with scissors). For those of you that don't know he wrote a memoir about his incredibly disfunctional childhood. This is his follow up as he finds his way to rehab for driniking. Talk about amazing and incredibly funny - you are amazed the guy is still even alive but the way he tells the story half of it you are laughing out loud. So matter of fact, so " this was my day today" talking about his habits, his thoughts, his memories like they are completely normal....really amazing. 4.5 out of 5.
Then read The God of Small Things - story of a set of Indian twins and stories of their childhood upon one twins return home and their harrowing past. Interesting story, detail was painted beautifully. writing style was interesting but got old about 1/2 way thru the book. 3 stars out of 5.
Then read Devil in the White City. historical non-fiction...parallel story of the architect who was in charge of directing the 1892 World's Fair and a serial killer who used the fair to find his victims. GREAT storytelling and not one of those blah historical fictions that can make you snooze. Learned a lot too! :) 4.5 out of 5!

I loved Devil in the White City! And I normally don't love historical books, but it was fantastic.
I read the God of Small Things years ago and remember liking it.
Good reviews!
