Not sure where to post this.....

So my twin boys were conceived due to IVF. My first pregnancy ended in a m/c. So we had 7 frozen embryos left over.
My insurance company pays for up to 6 months for storage.
DH and I decided that after these 2 boys are born that we are probably NOT going to have any more kids.
I just got a bill from the RE staing we owe them $300 for the past 3 months of storage.
Do we keep paying the$$$, or just have them destroyed?? That sounds so harsh to sayChat Icon

If we did decide to try again, we probably would do a fresh cycle and NOT use the frozen ones.
Thanks for listeningChat Icon

If you're pretty certain that you won't be using them I would let the RE dispose of them.

I would dispose of them. I would not be able to donate them unless if was for medical research of some kind.

Wow...tough decision Diane...I guess if you produced that many eggs and you were able to fertilize them so easily, then if and when you are ready to do this again, you will have no problems. I can't see paying for storage if you are unsure about what you are going to do.

Good luck sweetie!Chat Icon

I think donating them to medical research is a great idea! Since, if you do decide to have more childre, you said you will use a fresh batch.

Good luck in whatever you chooseChat Icon

Re: Not sure where to post this.....

My GF has twin girls from IVF and she was facing the same problem. The Dr. told her she would be better off with a fresh batch anyway. It ended up all the other embrios died which made her a little nervous because she was afraid something would be wrong with the pregnancy. She has 2 healthy beautiful 9 month old girls now and she is glad she does not have to make that decision.

she did tell me she didn't want to donate them because she would feel bad having her kids around without her knowing. She said if they could guarantee they would be donated cross country she may do it because there would be no chance of her running into them.

I think it's a tough decision and it's a personal decision. I think whatever you choose is the right decision because it will be the right decision for you & DH.

Good Luck!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

I would probably dispose of them as you said you probably will not use or will restart again if you both intend to. ALso, I understand your husbands position on the issue which of course could be controversial but I think hes entitled to feel as he does and I would do whats best for your family. That's sounds like the best option to me. DH's Aunt is in the same situation and it really is a huge dilemma. Good luck!

Re: Not sure where to post this.....

If you can donate them to medical research that would be awesome, but I understand why you wouldn't want to donate them to another couple.

Are you financially strained? If so - than you have your answer. If not, than maybe give yourself another month or 3 to think about it?
