Anyone have one child and been told you can't have a second?

If so, can you tell me how you coped/are coping with the news?

I know this might not help to much but my SIL has 3, 2 girls and her last is a boy. After she had her son her doctor told her she couldnt have any more and she was upset. I think part of her feels like it is her first all over again because it was her first boy and she always tells me how she wishes that she could just keep him this small. She savors every moment with him and I think the smiles he gives her every day makes her forget. I hope this helped a little.

I don't know any who have been told they can't. But, I do know woman who have gotten their tubes tied & went through depression beacuse of it.
On a side note I know a couple of woman who were told they couldn't have kids at all. One is a Mom of 3 the other has 2 kids. So who knows.

I am sure you are going through so many emotions lately. Big hugs & many prayers for you!!!

i haven't been told this, but if i ever was i'd like to think i would just be really thankful that i was able to have one and continue to focus on the positives.

Deb, my SIL had placenta previa with her last baby and her Dr told her she shoudl not get PG again and told her to have her tubes ties. After months we found out that placenta previa is specific to a pregnancy and she really didn't need her tubes tied. She is only 34. She was upset for a while but now has come to terms with adopting or IVF in the future. She also treasures her youngest-he was a surprise. Good luck. There are so many children in the world who need people to take care of them. If you are open to adoption I think that is a great solution.

my cousin was told this during her pregnancy because she came down with a liver disorder that causes still born's

she was very depressed especially because she always wanted a girl and already knew at the time she was having a boy

her son was born at around 28 weeks, which did not help her because he in the NICU for so long

but with time she has accepted it, and has worked out better for her life...i know she still wants another but her son definitely likes being an only child

i am sorry you were told this, you still have the ability to adopt, i know two families who have one of their own and one or two adopted children

If it's in regards to receiving chemo and radiation.....you *could* but it'd be some time before you could try again AND your chances of having a child with a disability are much higher due to the chemo and radiation.

I know MANY MANY women who were told they could not have kids....and they have 2 or more! Miracles DO happen and Doctors do NOT know everything.

My dad was told after his treatment no more kids...either by choice or that he couldn't (I don't recall) and my birth mother got PG by accident. Needless to say, it's still me and my sister.....

they chose to end the PG because of the chance of something being wrong with the baby but that was WAY back in the day.

Deb, I know someone who had breast cancer at the age of 26 . She went through on year of torture. She since ecovered but hasd to wait 5 years before TTC due to the meds, CHemo and radiation. Well the 5 years is almost up and she can TTC soon. I hope tis helps.

My grandmother. After my mom, they told her she would never have another child.

Well 13 years later when she came to America, she complained of stomach pains. Her friends in the US kept giving her alka seltzer. After a few months, she went to teh doctor and found out she was pregnant! My aunt- the alka seltzer baby.

Also she had cancer several times. Each time told her she had 6 months to live. That was around the time I was born, 1975 and she passed away in 1999 of something completely unrelated.

Also, my sister has 1 and always wanted more. But once my neice turned 1 (when they were going to try for another), they decided to just stick with one. They are so happy with her and love their lifestyle (they travel a lot and my sister travels alone with her DD).

I have a very close friend who had her son 20 years ago, and she had a lot of complicaitons with placenta previa, etc...

The doctor told her she could never get pregnant again...

Well, 16 years later, she got pregnant, and now has a 4 year old daughter!! Miracles do happen!

I have another friend who was told not to TTC because she had a procedure with cervical cancer....5 years later she was given the go ahead, and now has 2 beautiful children!!
