I think I might negoiate with them to a yearr. Did you know it was goint to be 2 years before hand or did you find out while you read the contract? I can't imagine it making it that much of a difference, but since I am not in that field I am not sure.

no. She never mentioned the non-compete. I figured she would throw it into the contract ( I have been in sales long enough to know how the game is played), but I never expected a two year non-compete. That is ridiculous IMO.

I replied to your thread on NFR - I have a one year non compete. From my experience they are non negotiable.

IMO, everything is negotiable. You have nothing to lose by asking them to revise it to either shorten the time period or exclude the clients that you brought to the company in the first place.

If they will rescind the offer because you are trying to protect yourself, you just did yourself a favor. I would not want ot work for a company that would be so strict as to rescind an offer. They of course have the right to decline your request, but to rescind would just be too much IMO.

Re: XPost fro NFR, job related...

I updated the post on NFR. Thanks for the great advice.

UPDATE: I just talked it over with my new employer and we worked it out that the non compete would apply to Orange County only (I have clients in Orange, Nassau, Suffolk, Queens, Westchester and Rockland Counties) for one year. Also, I can keep my exsisting clients and they would not be part of the non compete. Thank for all the GREAT advice ladies! Chat Icon Chat Icon
