 So sorry your family is going through this. My FIL is mentally ill, it took many years for my MIL to leave him. It was so hard at first, but 6 years later, she is adjusting.

Hi, I know I don't post here often but I wanted to offer my concern for you and your family. I'm sure this is hard and scary for all of you.
I'm not sure if you know but there is a domestic violence hotline that is a great resource 1-800-621-HOPE. The are great if you just need to talk or need some help with just about anything to do with these situations.
Your aunt is a very brave woman - you should be proud of her!

Sorry to hear you and your family are going through something like this. He definitely matches the personality of someone who is abusive and I'm glad she finally realized that and left. And she is also very lucky to have you there for her.

UPDATE-
Things are going great....We expected the worse, and we seem to have gotten the best, so Im thankful to all your prayers. She spoke to him via cell phone and he went to the Hospital. The Dr's stated he has( according to him) severe Bipolar and OCD and he is starting Meds and going into intense group and individual therapy.
He even called a real estate agent to sell their house, we thought he would fight this...
My Aunt refuses and will never tell him where she is or give out any info to him...she met the real estate lady at the diner to sign the papers...
BUT, he seems to for now understand that he is sick and she and their relationship made him worse...
Im sure theres more to it, but for now, the best end for now has occured and We all are breathing a little easier.
I thank each any every one of you for your thoughts...It was a scary time, not knowing WHAT to expect, but we got lucky...

Im glad everything is working out! Being in an abusive relationship for years(with my ex husband) , I know how hard it is to get the strength to leave! I wish your aunt and family the best!!!

Thanks so much for the update. It sounds like everything is going to be OK. Its quite a feat that he realized he is sick and needs help. Your aunt is smart to stay away from him adn to keep her location anonymous. Hopefully with the proper treatment, your uncle can stop being a hazard to your family and himself. thank GOD that man seeked some help. i feel so sorry for you and your family. although i am sure it is extremely difficult, your aunt made the right decision. there is NO excuse for this abuse. she is very lucky to have such a loving and supporting family. when the time is right and if she is comfortable w/ the idea, she should seek counseling. mental abuse can take years to overcome.
