what a sad day....

I started home tutoring this girl today.l She is a 4th grade student in my friends class. Her family was in that terrible car accident back on
Oct 2nd... The girl and her family were going to the cemetery to visit the grandmas grave who recently died of cancer.

they got into an accident. One aunt died, her cousin was badly hurt, one aunt is paralyzed from the neck down, the mother had her jaw broken , the father was hurt- hes ok now and the little girl..... Chat Icon keep in mind they were all YOUNG... aunt was in her 30's

2 broken arms
a broken leg
broken ankle
facial cuts and burns
Shw wa sin Winthrop for a month and rehab for a month. she is finally back home.

What a cute little girl. so smart and brave. She told me the whole story. She was the ONLY one that stayed conscious and helped the cops by giving all of the information. All 9 other passengers werent conscious!!!!!

Anyway, she hasnt been in school since Oct 3rd- they finally approved ahome tutor and they asked me to do it. So today was my first day.
She is doing better but the one thing she asked for is to walk again... She misses walkinmg and right now can only get around by wheelchair and walker. I left there and started crying...

made me think........

Re: what a sad day....

I think I remember reading this in Newsday. It was on the Wantagh or Northern State. A terrible tragedy. I think the Aunt was visiting and she wanted to see the grave one more time before leaving or something like that.

It is good that she has you. And you are such a great person to do it!

Re: what a sad day....

I know its hard to look at it this way, but you can look at it like a happy day. You met a little angel. Look at this strong little girl. She will be OK and she just affirmed my belief in the strength and goodness of children. She will be loved, and she will get better and she sounds like she will grow up to be an amazing person who may really make a difference in this world. And she is so blessed to still have her parents. Their wounds will heal and they will move on. Think of all the wonderful things this girl is capable of.

Thanks so much for sharing the story.

It did. It happened on the Wantagh... The aunt was in from Ohio- it is the girls mothers sister. The mother was driving.. She feels such GUILT.. I feel so bad!! One sister died and the other is paralyzed... but the girl is a tough cookie and I cant wait to work with her again!!!Chat Icon
