Really Upset and DH is just annoyed with me.. (long)

So-- I posted a week or so ago that we were having a hard time hanging our medicine cabinet- it's one of those tricky ones where the nail gets inserted into a precise spot- so everything needs to be perfect. It's also a b*tch to hang since everything needs to line up correctly.

So- we had used a handyman in the past to hook up our kitchen faucet and do other random stuff that we- either couldn't do as well, or didn't know how to do... So, we called him to hang our medicine cabinet.

Ok- this is a medicine cabinet from Restoration which was almost 300 bucks.. we also spent about 450 in the bathroom on wallpaper, then installation. So, that;s about 750 bucks all in..

I just got home and the medicine cabinet is crooked-- and there is an extra hole with a molly about 4 inches out from the medicine cabinet-- too far out for it to be concelead or barely noticed-- and too close to hang something over it.

I am soooo upset and p*ssed. This guy also shaved down our doors so we can close them over the rugs and charged us like 120 bucks for the whole thing. For ANY money- if you are for hire- you can at least hang the damn thing straight! Anyway-- I am annoyed and just got home to see all this- and DH is like- whatever- it's not that big a deal and nothing is ever going to be perfect-- but come on! Straight is not perfection-- you are a handyman- use a level and a pencil for gods sakes.

So- our walls are very delicate-- basically thin and hard to hang heavy stuff-- and there are too many holes now from us trying and this idiot screwing up.. I have no clue what to do- but the money we have put into making this bathroom looks nice- I feel like has gone down the toilet (no pun intended) cause of this stuff.. I want to fix it- but I have no clue how.. I am thinkiing we should try to return the medicine cabinet and I just hang a large mirror to cover all the holes- but I am going to need to put a shelf or something in there.


Sorry for the rant- but, if I say anything else out loud, DH is just going to get angry with me-- why this doesn't upset him I have NO idea.. help

I am sorry about the hole in the wall. Using a screwdriver take the nail out of the wall. Go to home depot and get some spackle/putty or if you do not care some plain white tootpaste (like old fashioned colgate). Put a dab of putty in the wall and with a putty knife scrape off the excess. Allow the putty to dry - it may take a day or two depending upon the moisture level in your bathroom. After the putty has dried take some fine grain sand paper and sand down the wall/putty spot so everything is even. If the putty sunk in then you will need to put in more putty - so it is best to put in a little more so you can sand it down.

After sanding, prime and paint the wall/spot with the same paint used in the room.

Thanks-- but, if the walls were just painted-- it would be that easy... we have wallpaper which we JUST put in and paid $350 to install it and paid like $150 for the paper itself. So- the hole is just there and there is nothing we can do about it.

that;s a good idea thanks.. of course the people who we had install the wallpaper- picked up and moved to FL. I had already called them on a previous matter and they didn't return my call-- I think we were their last job here. I would be afraid to do it myself for fear of it looking crappy.. but, I guess I can invesitgate someone to do it.

I really think I will try to sell it and just get a flat mirror. I just want all the mess behind something that I can't see. And if DH hears me complain about it anymore-- I think he is going to go crazy.. If it's covered--it won't bother me-- but if I have to look at it, it will just drive me up the wall..

Ugh, that s*cks Randi. I know what you mean about just not being happy. Even if no one else noticed it, it would be the only thing I saw every time I went into the bathroom. Is there any way you can purchase a larger medicine cabinet? That way you get your storage and cover the holes.

Um, I have no idea what a shim is-- but I think the holes are just off. DH told me that the handyman showed him the holes before he drilled-- which are only like 16 inches apart- so I have no idea how they are not straight...

A larger medicine cabinet probably won't work-- and to be honest, I don't want to spend the money on that.. I think I might just get a decorative framed mirror and lean it up against the wall-- that is what I did with the old mirror before the cabinet was hung-- and despite the mirror just being plain-- I liked the look of it-- and I won't have to deal with drilling any more holes. I lose out on cabinet space though.. but I have been dealing with it for two months.. I'll have to edit my toiletries.. and I can get a shelf to put in-- that should be eeasier to hang than this heavy cabinet..

A shim is a small piece of wood used to level off another piece of wood.
Can you call the original handy man and tell him that the cabinet is not up properly and that you want him to come back and fix it?
