CITY TEACHERS !!!! Report Cards

How do most of you grade your students on their first report card?

My son (in 3rd grade) came home today told my SIL that he is sad. She asked why. He said I got all 1s onmy report card and two zeroes. The zeros were for his attendance which obviously is fine. then he saw the part where it read promotion in doubt.

Even the gym, music, science all extra teachers gave him a zero. Does this teacher grade on the low side. I am so angry right now. My SIL is a 4th gd teacher and she works with him everyday, I come home from work and do review. This is a kid who starts his homework without being asked. Doesnt give me an ounce of trouble. My SIL and I both have been in contact with the teacher previously and she could have mentioned this to us. No? I am very angry. I can not wait till Monday. My son is emotionally weak and very sensitive. The teacher does not give him praise (at least that is what he tells me).

I know last year the teacher gave 2's on his first report card but improved them as she went along. which she told us. But to give child 1's when you have been in contact with the parents is just wrong. Dont you think? Especially this year for the third graders.

Yes, she should have let you know sooner if the grades were going to be low.

The teacher is probably trying to cover her azz because of the new promotional policy. Better to alert you to issues now when there is still time to address them. But you still should have been informed sooner.
