I am seriously going to lose my mind....or kill my dog

I have had it with my pug/beagle mix. The last few days he's been pooping in the house, taking WAY too long to do his business outside, and completely frustrating the cr@p out of me.

Last night I got SO mad at him, I started hyperventilating and couldn't breath.

I'm so on edge with him and don't know what to do. We don't have a fenced yard yet and with DH not home often-I'm the one walking him mostly and I simply can't take it anymore!!!!

I know your frustration, but try to keep it under control. when a dog senses fear from its owner, it will associate that everytime you try to give it a command or fear in general will make him confused and poop everywhere. I know its hard, have you gotten any training books or the sprays to remove the scent? If not I have a concocktion that works- trust me I have 5 cats and 2 big dogs and yes there are accidents and puke- you name it we have it. But the key thing is to NOT get angry. That dog is there unconditionally giving you love and it just needs guidance, they are just like children. Dont give up. Maybe his food is making him constipated? that he cant go "fast" and taking too much time. My dogs dont go right away either, I walk them a good 15 minutes before the poop comes, Chat Icon , pee ha they mark every spot, but just be patient and enjoy the walk too. GL and I hope it works out for you.

I agree with girlygrl - dogs can sense emotions so you have to try to stay as positive as you can. The poor thing hasn't figured out yet that pooping outside is good, so you just need to be patient with her and use really tasty treats and positive reinforcement. She'll get it eventually!
What are you feeding her by the way?

I know how you feel about being frustrated. Try to take a deep breath, count to 10, walk away. He'll only be scared if you hit him. I know I've lost my patience with Casey a few times and smacked her on the behind, and felt horrible about it. Chat Icon

Is there any way you can fence the yard sooner? Or maybe but some gardening fencing and make a little area for him? Maybe get a dog walker?

Are you sure he's not sick. How old is he? Were his bathroom habits normal before?

Dont get stressed out, its not healthy. I do this with Murphy too but I realize its not worth getting so upset about.

I would first check that it definitely isnt a medical reason.

After that being said, are you feeding him meals or leaving food out for him all day?

well said Girlygirl!

Is there a way to maybe tie the dog up on a long leash for a bit outside in the yard?

Re: I am seriously going to lose my mind....or kill my dog

his food and eating schedule is the same.

He's fine otherwise, not acting sick. I know part of the reason is the other animals that "roam" through our yard-the smells distract him.

He seems sensitive to the length of the grass (yes....when DH cuts it, it takes a few days for him to adjust and when it's long, same thing). He loves to chase bugs too and is easily distracted by noises.

His habits are FINE--he really does know that he is supposed to go outside.

I know he'd jump a small fence and I refuse to leave him out on a lead for fear of him choking himself.

DH will take care of them when he's here, but he's been working at night alot lately which leaves it all to me. *SIGH*

I hope it does not continue after the baby is born

it depends....if he really has to go, then he'll do all his business in about 10-15 minutes.

If he's screwing around, then we'll out there for up to 30 minutes.
