Question about 12 week check up..UPDATED w/ Picture

I was told to drink 24oz of water 1 hour before app't and not to go to the bathroom, is this because of ultrasound? Do you get to see better if you drink water? Thanks all !


UPDATE: I asked the sono tech. and she said yes all the water was for the sonogram - it was the screening for downs also. She took 1 pic. of the baby than let me go potty and then we took lots more pictures and I was soo much more comfortable, I had to go sooo bad. Here is the baby.

That's probably what it's for, however, when I went for my 12 week, she had me empty my bladder, so who knows.

I did have to empty my bladder for the 1st sonogram - it was internal though.

Hmmm...I'll let you know.

The doctors office told you that?
I always had to empty my bladder before.

Yes, they said one hour before, I am just assuming it is for sonogram?

Usually abdominal sonos are done after drinking alot of water.. I always had to do that to..
Only time you dont is for an internal sono

for my 12 week they had me empty my bladder. for the 20 week they did 2 - one full one empty. I think they say the fluid allows them to see more detail and get the meausrements they need. hope this helps...

All of my sono's have been external. I had one at 7 weeks, 12 weeks, 20 weeks, and will have one at 32 weeks. None of them I had to go with a full bladder.

I feel bad for you, won't it be so uncomfortable to have them pushing on your tummy, with a cold gel when you have to pee.

I think that's plain mean to do a pg lady

Did they tell you why? I would ask if it's really truly necessary.

Updated: I can't beleive how much we got to see at 12 weeks 2 days ! Hands and feet were flying !!

That picture is incredible!!! I can't believe mine look like that now as well :) What a difference from 7 weeks!! Congrats, its so exciting!

I didn't get a 12 week sonogram/picture but wow I can't believe the difference between 8 and 12 weeks. This actually looks like a baby! How exciting!

wow - i am so excited our 12 week is on 3/8...gosh i hope i don't have to hold all that water in...i'd explode literally - especially since I always have to pee when i get nervous and will,no doubt be on edge!!!
