How many houses did you look at?

Before you bought your house, how many did you look at? How long did it take to know you found "the one"?

We looked at about five. We weren't in a rush to buy a house, but we figured if something came up within our price range with the things we wanted in a house, we'd go for it.

Only about three but we had a VERY long list of must-have's before I'd look at anything. This is also our second house so we weren't willing to settle on many things. We wound up buying the first house we looked at.

We looked at 30 homes in the area we wanted to move to in a 3 week period. I had been looking on line before visiting the areas, but once we saw our home we knew it was "the one" and it is our home. I still love it, even though it is farther from our families than we really wanted, it is only 10 minutes to DHs job and that is great. It has all the amenities we wanted.

We looked for two weekends and saw at most 6 until we found the house we're in the process of purchasing now. As soon as we saw it we knew it was the one we wanted.

Only about five (plus two condos). But we had looked online for months and months, and we knew when we found our house that it was a good deal. The other houses in our price range were smaller and not as nice. It helped that the sellers needed to sell asap and priced it accordingly.

Wow - I am the exception to the rule. We looked at 130 - of course we bid on 11, went to inspection on 2, outbid on 9, and got the 12th house we bid on This was from Oct 2002 - Feb 2004. It was during the hot, high prices season.

I would have killed to look at 6 and been done!

We looked at about 6 or so a weekend for what seemed like months. We saw a lot of junk and many that we saw online were never the same in person - location was bad, inside was bad, pics were deceiving.

It was getting discouraging when my parents called to say that there was a house for sale in one of the towns we were looking in an area that we loved. So we closed on Monday!

I found it to be a long and depressing process...but if you are starting to look in the Spring and Summer...there are many more houses to look at!

easily 50 or so....not to mention all the random open houses we went too if we were in the area

we bid on 4, lost them and then found our house shortly after. All in all, it took about a year and a half.

Well...we have gone out on about 4 separate occasions and just driven by houses. I would say we have seen around 30 that way. We recently hooked up with an agent who showed us one last weekend and tomorrow we are going to see 3 more. We just got preapproved so things are starting to pick up I guess. I'm nervous about tomorrow because it is all so real now!

About 6. We had a pretty unrealistic set of criteria so it automatically ruled out just about everything

Probably about 80 in about 2.5 months.

*Approx. 100 over a year's time.
*Bid on 5.
*We were outbid on 3. (Offers were well over asking price.)
*Bidding war on 1.
*Offer accepted on the the last one. (Lucked out b/c the last house was the best value of all...better location and a lot less than the other homes we were bidding on.)

we've looked at dozens and dozens, haven't found "the one" yet

to be fair, we bid on 2. we withdrew our bid from the first one (thank goodness) and the 2nd one we were outbid on.

I think we saw 10, bid on 2.

We actually went to and walked through about 6, bid on 2 and got the second one. We drove past about 30.
