HSG at NSUH today

I have an appt. for 2:30 but they said I have to be there at 1:30.

Is it realistic to go by myself? Is ther any reason to think I wouldn't be able to drive afterwards?? I know each person is different, and I plan to take a few Tylenol beforehand....and I am hoping it is not painful.

Re: HSG at NSUH today

You might be a little crampy afterwards, but you should have no problem driving.

Good luck!

Re: HSG at NSUH today

I have an appointment at NSUH at 3:30, if I can help in anyway let me know.

This is what RS advises before the HSG and I didn't have much pain...2-3 advil 2 hours prior to the exam and then 2-3 more advil 1 hour prior. I took 3 advil both time.

After my HSG, I drove back to work and finished my day. I had some slight cramping and was a little uncomfortable but nothing that prevented me from working. I did take about 3 Motrins about an hour before.

Good luck and may sure you can see the screen. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: HSG at NSUH today

A friend of mine took 2 motrin an hour before her HSG and was fine for the rest of the day. her DH did go with her but she did tell me she felt a little discomfort on the table but 10 minutes later was just fine. I don't know anyone else who has had this done.

Good luck!

Re: HSG at NSUH today

The whole thing lasted about 5 - 10 minutes.

You get undressed from the waist down. They put the speculum in and then they tell you it's going to cramp, and they inject the dye - that's when the cramping really begins.

Then they scoot you back on the table and take the images. They'll had me do one flat, roll right and left slightly and that's it.

I was able to watch the dye on the screen as they did it - it was pretty cool, if you like that kind of thing.

They take everything out, swab your cervix and give you a pad! The worst part for me was that I bled a LOT! And they give you the pad, but I didn't have my underwear, so nothing to stick it too!! It was gross!! I went home and showered afterwards and then went to work.

I was uncomfortable, but able to drive.

I should mention that I took 2 Advil one hour before the test and 2 Advil 30 minutes before on the recommendation of my doc. That helped, but I still felt yucky!!

Re: HSG at NSUH today

I took three advil before and had no pain at all - I took this to mean I was all clear, but both were blocked.

Good Luck

Re: HSG at NSUH today

OK I am back -- the worst part was the parking!! Chat Icon What a nightmare! No space in the garage so finally (I was running late since I had to go back home for the RxChat Icon ) I valeted it.

Anyway, I took 3 Motrin about 2 hours before, and 2 more about a half hour before. I felt the pinch but really it wasn't bad at all. A little cramping. I watched the dye whooosh through, which was neat and a RELIEF. Dr. Rosenfeld did the HSG and he says he is really fast, so I was up and out in 10 max. He says my tubes are just fine. Chat Icon

Now if only they could tell me that about my FSH!! Chat Icon Chat Icon
