BOrrowing books from the library long vent
Sorry for the long vent, I'm just so disgusted. I borrowed a few books from the library this weekend. They are all 14 day rentals, so they are all pretty new releases. One of them has only been in circulation for 6 months, and the book is in disgusting condition. I'm only halfway through and there have been coffee rings on some pages, chocolate stains, poppy seeds, blueberry jam (with a smooshed blueberry), pizza grease and some kind of taco or tomato sauce. I read while I eat also, but I take care to make sure that the book is not in the way so that it doesn't get gross. Why can't people treat books with respect? Then they wonder why the library budget keeps increasing each year, ummm they have to replace the new books you destroyed!

That is gross, and in addition to ruing the one book, the crumbs and stains could also attract critters, which might ruin even MORE books 
this is one of my peeves too!

I can totally sympathize!!! I work in a library and am appalled at the condition of some of the books I see returned over the counter (and in the bookslot as well)
When we bring it to the attention of the patron, they're so quick to say "I took it out like that". There's no way we would circulate a book in that condition.
I hope you have better library experiences in the future!!

When I lived in Queens, I used the library all the time and stuff like that used to really upset me. It also made me worry that they'd think I was the one who made the mess in the book.

This is why I never go to the library. I haven't in years. I buy all of my books. 
It's a mentality I can NOT understand. People feel like if it's not theirs, they can destroy it.
