Bottle Feeding
How long can you store bottles in the fridge for...I heard for no more than 24 hours.....
I know every baby is different but I was wondering for those of you who have to prepare bottles for a babysitter while you go to work, how many bottles do you usually prepare in advance?

The RTF bottle says no more than 72 hrs. I don't prepare bottles for my sitter, I gave her two bottles to keep there and every two weeks or so I drop off a case of RTF formula.
When we are at home, I prepare as many bottles as we have (usually 6) which last me a day and half. Before I gave the sitter the two bottles we had 8 so I would prep all those and it would last us 2 days. Typically everything gets used by 2 days max.

What's RTF?
I'm going to have to prepare the bottles myself cuz my mom says she doesn't trust herself with the meauring...LOL
So in general she would need about 8 bottles a day prepared? That's fine as long as she cleans them for me by the end of the day so I can prepare them again...

RTF - Ready to feed.
I give my sitter 5 bottles. Emma will generally eat every 3-4 hours so I figured out how many hours she would be with the sitter and divided that by 3 and got 4 - I give an extra bottle just in case.

Well, that's one of the reasons why I'll probably never be switching to powder because then I probably wouldn't trust the sitter to prepare the bottles. With the Ready to Feed, all she has to do is pour. Plus I don't have to deal with prepping bottles everyday.
If I was prepping bottles for her, I would only do one days worth plus one extra just in case so for Jake that would mean 5 bottles. If your baby eats every 3 hours though, it would be more bottles. All depends on how often she eats and how long the baby will be there.

Well it would be for an 8 hour workday. Maybe I should do the ready to feed formula, it's just more expensive... Now with that all you have to do is pour it into the bottle and heat up? I mean where are you storing the RTF formula? in the fridge? If the powdered milk you make can only be in the fridge then how long can you store the RTF for?
And could you use both powder and RTF formula as long as it's the same brand?

I would do the powder. Put the correct amount of powder in & have her add hot water right before feeding time. If she doesn't mix it, I would reuse the powder the next day.

Yes you can do this. I found the powder much easier since you just need to add hot water. I would have to throw out the RTF if I didn't use it up in time.

I give my sitter a few bottles that she keeps at her house. She washes them and stores them in her cabinet. I make sure she has formula at all times. Sometimes it is ready to feed and sometimes it is the powder and she prepares it. I honestly could not imagine preparing and lugging 5 bottles to the sitter everyday with all the other stuff that I bring. I would need another set of arms.

Yes you can do this. I found the powder much easier since you just need to add hot water. I would have to throw out the RTF if I didn't use it up in time.
How long do you have to use up the RTF and where do you store it?

That is a great deal then. I use the powder at home and I can say that it is a breeze and you get so used to scooping two or three scoops in the bottle that you don't even think about it. My daughter has acid reflux so we had to add a little rice cereal to her bottles too. You never know what your going to have to do so my advice is just be flexible and go with the flow. Do what works for you and your baby at that time. It may change from month to month. You never know.

That's ok. I should have mentioned from the get go that it was my mom who was going to be watching the baby.

You don't have to explain. I was more joking around when I said it. Sometimes it is hard to convey that. I never thought about the powder being a pain. I wonder if my sitter curses me for bringing the powder instead of the RTF.
