Why do some doctors always do ultrasounds and mine doesn't?

I was told by my doctor that i get one at my level II but aside from that, it isn't "medically necessary" and insurance wouldn't cover more than one. He snuck me in the room for one at 7 weeks cause I BEGGED to have a pic of the bean. But i get sad when i read women who have them every visit. I would love anothe picture!! Its hard to wait :(

Most doctors I believe do not do then often, me on the other hand had complications in the beginning, and I had to take progesterone suppositories. They needed to monitor to me and the baby -they only way that they could tell everything was ok was through ultrasounds.

I know it's hard to not get pics of your bean, but truthfully the women who get ultrasounds a lot during the 1st trimester are usually women who had fertility treatment to get pregnant, or who had trouble staying pregnant in the past. I was one of them!

Trust me though, the amazing views you get at the Level II make the wait worthwhile! Chat Icon

Although it is true that woman who have had previous mc or fertility treatments will def get early sono's.. I actually have never heard of woman NOT getting them regardless of their past before 12 weeks..

im pretty sure its common practice of any obgyn to give one early one to see a heartbeat.
I also never heard of an insurance company not paying for them...

that said.. if theres nothing u can do about it.. just hang in there.. your level 2 will come soon enough

My doctors only do the level II also. It seems like everyone else gets more! I must admit a little jealousy. Chat Icon But I guess the good thing is if you don't have to have them, it means that everything is going well. Better than to have a lot of ultrasounds because of potential problems.

eta: my doctors don't even do one in the beginning to confirm the pregnancy. just at 20 weeks. although, if you had irregular cycles or something and couldn't really be sure when you conceived they might do one to date the pregnancy.

I was supposed only get 3. I had one at 11 weeks (not at my 7 week appointment), 1 at 20 weeks and one more in my 3rd trimester- assuming all goes well. I had a fall so I had another one at 24 weeks- but that wasn't planned.
