Bomb scare at work! - update!

So, I get to work this morning, and discover that my building is on lockdown because there was a bomb scare at the children's hospital on our campus. The bomb-sniffing dogs went into check things out, and thank goodness, everything was okay. Pretty scary though!

Most "bomb scares" are complete BS. Someone is pranking, or if there's the most minute hint of a rumor, they have to make a big deal of it for safety's sake. There was at least one bomb threat a week at my HS, or else there was a bomb threat at the WTC that we had to be aware of since we were only a few blocks away. I guess I'm sort of used to them, although I shouldn't be. I hear "bomb scare" and I think "yeah, right!" but being in one can be very scary, because you really never know in this world.

i understand that but its a little different nowadays compared to the old hs prank.....terrorists dont care.. men, women, children...... thats why its even scarier....

it wasn't a HS prank. My school was a prominent internationally known HS in the financial district, so it was very real...especially the threats directed at the WTC and WFC.

But at the same time part of me thinks/hopes/believes that there was actually no threat against the children at the children's hospital. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Bomb scare at work! - update!

Just got this e-mail regarding this morning's bomb scare. I am so angry!!!!

Everyone,

I just wanted to take a minute to follow-up with you all regarding two events this morning that resulted in the police being called. Early this morning there was a bomb threat phoned in to the medical center that targeted several buildings on campus. As you know, this resulted in a “lock down” of ____ Hall. Security notified Westchester County Police, who dispatched the county bomb squad to search this and the other targeted buildings on campus. In reviewing this with the Director of Security, we clarified the issue of how a lock down should be conducted. Staff who were already in the building when the lock down was called should have been evacuated with the understanding that they could not re-enter the building until it was cleared by the bomb squad.

You mean the employees inside the building should have been evacuated?! REALLY? Why no one in charge realized this this morning is beyond me! We were all standing outside the building wondering why it wasn't evacuated and why we were standing directly outside a building when they are searching for bombs!!

We will work with Security to be sure that all security personnel can respond in the appropriate way to all types of emergencies, and also update our policy on bomb threats to include this information.

The second event occurred approximately two hours later and was determined to be unrelated to the earlier bomb threat. Someone placed a call from the lobby phone to security making a vague threat--not specific to this building. The call was traced to (my building) Hall and Security and Westchester County Police arrived and arrested an individual suspected of making the phone call.

Didn't even know this went on - wonderful!!!

If anyone has any questions or concerns, please feel free to call me. One positive outcome from these types of situations is that we become better informed and prepared to respond appropriately in the event of an actual emergency.

And if G-d forbid there was an actual bomb? Then what would the positive outcome be???

what?? i would think the first step in a bombscare type of situation would be to get everybody out of the targeted building....

You would think, wouldn't you?!

One of my co-workers called one of our supervisors who was already in the building, and she didn't even know that it was on lockdown!! Chat Icon
