Glucose Test Question
Hi Ladies...
I am taking the 1 hr Glucose test this Saturday. My doctor said that some women fast but she would prefer I eat something before the test. I will be taking the test in the morning. I am not sure whether I should eat or not...I wanted to know what your experience was with the test.
Did you eat before the 1 hr Glucose test? Did you pass? If you ate and you remember and don't mind sharing, what did you eat before the test?
TIA

Re: Glucose Test Question
I was told to fast before my test. I failed both my 1hr and 3hr, I had gestational diabetes.

Re: Glucose Test Question
I am not having my test until the evening (6pm). I was also told it was not necessary to fast. I will probably just watch what I eat that day, and be sure it isn't anything too sugary or too close to the test.
I think it will be fine to have a regular, "light" meal before you go. After all, the amount of glucose they are giving you for the test far exceeds what you would take in at a meal.

Re: Glucose Test Question
I was told to eat something before the test then to drink the drink and not have anything to eat or drink after I drank the drink. I was advised to not have anything with sugar in it that morning and was suggested eating protein because protein absorbs sugar. I ate a scrambled Egg Beater omelet with cheese on an English muffin. Delicious
Other than the lemon lime drink being nasty and gagging the whole time I drank it, I passed with a 99
Best of luck to you!

Re: Glucose Test Question
I was told to have a light breakfast but I just had my usual small glass of OJ and a big glass of skim milk with ovaltine. I passed.

Re: Glucose Test Question
I was told not to eat anything (but water) for 4 hours before the test. I am taking it at 9 am so I will pretty much be fasting from the night before.

Re: Glucose Test Question
I took mine the first thing and I didn't eat anything because I wasn't hungry...My Dr told me it was not necessary to fast either. I had failed my 1 hour 2x's and passed my 3 hr. My dr kept telling me it had nothing to do with what I ate. I think every dr. is different

Re: Glucose Test Question
My glucose test is on 2/2 at 6pm. They told me not to eat after 1 p.m. So at least I can still have breakfast and lunch.

Re: Glucose Test Question
Thanks for your responses ladies. I will probably end up eating something an hour or two before the test and hope to pass I think I too will feel sick not eating before drinking that drink.

Re: Glucose Test Question
I take mine again on the 2nd of Feb. I'm talking it in the morning at 10:30, so the paperwork says not to eat immediately before the test of during the hour after I drink my drink. My doc said it was fine to eat breakfast!
The first pregnancy, I took it at night after work, and I ate normally through out the day. I passed.

Re: Glucose Test Question
my doctor told me to stay away from bread and carbs before the test so that morning i had a 1/2 cup of oj and scrambled eggs and passed. he said people fast and it gives them a false positive and thats why so many people have to come back for the 3 hour test.
