We just discovered we have an inground sprinkler system at our house

My seller briefly mentioned that there was an in ground sprinkler system installed by his previous owner... but he was "never able to get it work".

It wasn't on the listing... so I figured it was just junk.

Well I had my inlaws over yesterday to help us with the house. My FIL discovered where the main valves are under the ground.

Low and behold... after some fooling around with it and connecting the hoses... BAMM... we had 16 sprinkler heads pop up from the grass that were long buried! Chat Icon Its a four zone system.

And they work pretty well! Chat Icon I think two of the heads need to be replaced (leaking).

I have the original "brain" of the system that was in one of my bedrooms (disconnected). And I think they cut the wire from the main valves outside that went into the house when they did the new siding last year.

Maybe we can re-run the wires for the brain into the house? But its good to know that the main infrastructre of the sprinkler system (the piping) seems to work pretty well!

Talk about a nice discovery!

Also... I think its a Rain-Tec system... or Rain something. My FIL said its a good brand.

Anyways... does anyone know maybe a CHEAP guy that can service an IGS. I might need some minor repairs done to get this system up to spec... but I definitely don't want to pay a fortune.

Yeah! We had the water running and it practically covered all our grass in the front of the house... and on the side! We don't have anything in the backyard though.

My seller said it was there and "maybe" we could get it working... but he said he had no luck. So i never took him seriously.

Took my FIL about 30 minutes to get water pumping through. We couldn't believe it.

There was a lot of air in there so water wasn't coming out initially. But then we increased the pressure and just turned one zone on at a time. All the heads popped way up!

My wife is going to home depot today to look for two replacement heads.

Its nice to find something that actually WORKS... considering after moving in we found a ton of stuff that frankly... didn't work. Chat Icon Chat Icon

That's a great find.

I have not compared his prices recently, but when I lived in Farmingdale, Lee Hanson (516) 249-6192 was pretty good.

We use Arty's Sprinklers (he's in East Meadow). He just replaced a head for us for $35. He's reasonable and honest

Re: We just discovered we have an inground sprinkler system at our house

You can replace the sprinkler heads yourself. My DH did it for about $3.00 each. Just bring an old one to a plumbing supply place (there are a few on Sunrise Hwy in Seaford/Wantagh area) and match it up. I know for a fact that my DH didnt know they system all that well but it was pretty simple. Of course since you are new to the system and want to get it serviced too, obviously you can have someone come in and do the replacements at the same time. We use someone whose # I dont have handy but he's very reasonable, if I can find his # I will repost.

What a find though, nice surprise.

Re: We just discovered we have an inground sprinkler system at our house

I just used Ron Zinkiewicz - 631-455-1659

I had a sprinkler head moved to a different location. I also had one that was leaking and was above the ground a bit so he fixed the leak and lowered it. All for $35.00. He does good work and he is cheap. I would have gotten hit over the head through anyone else.
