It says the poll is closed, but I always assume that the date given is the absolute last day I can turn something in.

I am also one of a few people I know who has never turned in late work to a professor, so I may not be the normal poll taker

I'm an undergrad student. Sometimes I *do* view due dates as flexible. it really depends on the professor. I know sometimes I can get away with it. I have so much going on that something has to fall by the wayside, so I have to prioritize and hand some things in late. The only time I know I can't hand things in late is when the professor has a specific system of points lost vs. days late. if I know handing it in late will specifically bring me from a A to an A- as my top grade, I take that more seriously than "Late work will not be accepted"

I think students today are increasingly spoiled and pampered. I see the freshmen as completely different from even when I was a freshman (almost 6 yrs ago!)... some of them are so spoiled and don't know how to do work and don't know how to take ti seriously. I would assume it would be different in grad school, but if they got away with it in undergrad, they might carry that over to grad school. I have to admit I've gotten away with murder. For example I've had one professor sseveral times, I always get an A or an A+ on the paper, and she lets you revise it after you turn it in. I know I won't need to revise it, so I hand it in on the revision due date, not the original due date.

ETA: For me it's not a matter of "I don't give a sh*t" it's just that I have SO much going on. When it nears time for a play to open (like right now..ahh) something's gotta give.

I'm an undergrad student but I'll answer anyway. I have never handed in an assignment late, I've never asked for an extension (I didn't even know I could do that until last semester, and I'm graduating now) - nothing! Until today, that is . But I'm in a class where I was one of 4 people TOTAL that actually had this current assignment ready on the day it was due so I held my paper back to work on it some more.

I look at due dates as the absolute last day an assignment can be handed in.

I look at them as absolute last dates. Not to be a nerd, but if there isn't some special circumstance, why is it fair that other students hand their work in late? What about the ones who did what they were supposed to when they were supposed to?! I have that problem in several of my classes and it think it's bullsh$t!

As a former grad student I always turned in my work by the due date. I never asked for an extension, but can see that maybe there are circumstances occasionally that might warrant one.

My professors used to either not except assignments past the due date or would deduct letter grades for every day it was late. That always seemed fair to the students who managed to complete their work on time.

Unless I personally spoke to the professor and got an extention, I always handed my work in by the date it was due. I didn't want to take a chance, with all the money I was paying, so I made sure they had those papers!! Pulled many allnighters to make sure they were in by the due date.

I always hand my work in by the due date no matter what. I am one of those people that wont sleep for days. I think sometimes students just get caught up and need hte extra time. I would say for maybe one assignment a semester. I see some students that are constantly emailing the proffessor the work. I think there should exceptions but not every single assignment.

Always handed in my work on time, if students are late with work they should talk to you about it...or it should affect their grade
