Breastfeeding question

How long does/did your infant breastfeed for (at each feeding)? The Dr had said 10-20 minutes on each side (I go back to him Monday). Logan RARELY does that long, it's usually more like 6-7 min on each side (both sides IF lucky). He does this every 2-3 hrs but I find myself giving him an extra 3-5 min (whatever he will take) in between b/c I don't feel like he is getting enough. He is definately getting milk (I see it and hear him sucking and swallowing) he just either falls into a dead sleep or stops feeding himself. He is pooping an peeing like crazy though so he must be geting something.

Oh, and I tried giving him formula a few times but he barely drank it. He seems satisfied or even full but it just doesn't seem like he's on the breast long enough.

Does the size of the baby have anything to do with it? My mom said maybe b/c he small (6lb7oz now) that he's at the lwer end of the range the dr gave me.?

Thanks

Re: Breastfeeding question

Don't worry about the time spent at each breast unless he isn't pooping/peeing the recommended diapers.

I had a fast let down and Gabriella was a good eater so she rarely ate more than 5-7 minutes at a time.

If he stops, he's satisifed. And if he pees and poops your set. NO need to supplement or try to squeeze in extra feedings. You'll make yourself nuts!

Ditto. Andrew was what I called a power eater. He could get a feeding in less than 10 minutes. If he's pooping and peeing fine, he's getting plenty.

Re: Breastfeeding question

i'd say you are lucky. Sidney was 6lbs 7 oz and took 30 mins on each breast cause she just suckled alot. Then after another hr it was time to eat again. I was going insane for the 1st 3 weeks.
