Just curious...if there is no shower...when do we get the stuff we need from our registrys? SOunds so greedy I know but I have NOTHING!
Be thankful if you are having a shower....I want a shower sooooo bad...for the celebration and for the babies needs. When I say we have nothing...I mean it. No furniture, strollers, car seat etc... do I assume it comes at the bris or baby naming? I dont understand why my mom and dh mom want me to make a registry without a shower. this feels so strange!

Re: Jewish preggos

I am Jewish...but I had a shower, and all my stuff is sitiing the the living room (DH is painting the baby's room right now Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon )

My cousin had a shower...but wouldn't bring anything into the house (old Jewish tradition) and she left everthing at her mom's house...her DH painted the room and brought all the stuff over from her mom's while she was in the hospital.

If you are not having a shower, you can still buy stuff...but if you don't want it in the house, leave it at a relative or friends house until the baby is born.

I'm Jewsih and DH is Catholic. I'm having a shower but I think I want all of the stuff stored at my inlaws until he is born. Then DH can rush home to set everything up. Chat Icon Not sure though....Chat Icon

I'm Jewish, DH is Christian. I am having a shower and all of the stuff is going the the grandparent's house until the babies get here. The furniture will be delivered when I am in the hospital and we are going to paint before I deliver.

We are Jewish too. I am not pregnant yet but I do plan on registering and NOT having a shower. If anyone chooses to buy us things before we deliver, they will be stored at either my mothers house or my IL's house. I do understand a desire to have a shower but I simply wont have one. Not one of my nieces and nephews were without what they needed. If you are concerned about furniture, you could always use a bassinet temporarily until your furniture arrives.

Re: Jewish preggos

we registered and I am not having a shower. If we dont get things that we need by the first week in November, then we are going to buy the basics and maybe get more stuff at the Bris. We have nothing also and its stressing me out big time Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Jewish preggos

My best friend is Jewish and was having twins for her first. She needed TONS of stuff and her DH was in the ,middle of switching jobs so she had to have a shower. We ended up putting mine and my other friends name on the invite and paid for some stuff and her Mom boufght most everything else. This way her Mom was not giving it to her, we were and she still got to have her shower

In the UK no one throws showers, but because I threw a little one for my friend when she had her baby, she threw me a little one, however I only got very small gifts, like toys and teddies. Most of the stuff we either had to buy ourselves or our parents bought for us. Most people here just buy everything they need for themselves, so if you got everything as a gift, you should thank your lucky stars that people do that! Its amazing that people spend so much money on each other!!!

I will probably register for things we need but I don't want to have a shower. If people give us gifts before the baby is born, I will probably give them to someone in my family to hold for us until we bring the baby home.

I think that people will buy and give gifts after the baby is born, especially if they come to a bris or baby naming ceremony.

I don't even want the furniture here until the baby is born!

Edited with question: Do the Jewish preggos plan on finding out the sex of your baby?

Re: Jewish preggos

I debated whether I would register and whether I would have a shower or not. I also did not know what I was having. As it closer I decided I wanted one because I realized that I probably would not see many of these people once I had the baby. I am really glad I did because now dd is 8 months and I probably only saw most of the people who were there one time since the shower.
I stored everything at my moms from the shower and the furniture in my garage. I was in the hospital for 4 days since I had a C and meanwhile dh and friends transported everything to my house and when I got home from the hospital they came back to helps set up the furniture and put things where I wanted it.
The only thing I would have done differently was the bedding. I picked out gender neutral bedding and once I came home with my baby girl, I then wished I did the shabby sheek style for her.

Re: Jewish preggos

I registered but no shower. Most of the gifts will come at the bris (if we have a boy) or right after the baby girl arrives (we are not finding out what we are having).
I told work no shower also but they surprised me yesterday anyway Chat Icon . They all know and understand about no gifts so many of them chipped in and are sending the gifts. Anything that arrives at the house before the baby comes is sitting in a room we never use unopened. All my friends and coworkers think I am nuts but what are you going to do?
