Do a lot of companies have off for Yom Kippur (next Monday)?
I know I do, but that may be because my agency follows a school schedule for holidays.
Anyone else?

we dont' even get all the bank holidays off, so definitely no. I just wish we got Columbus day

ETA: BUT...if we want Good Friday off we have to use a personal day. We asked a while back if Yom Kippur and Good Friday could be floating holidays...ummm...no word yet?

Same here for Good Friday -- we are closed if it happens to coincide with Passover otherwise it's a personal day.

Schools in our area always have off. I'd even be so bold as to say it is because there wouldnt be enough teachers to teach if they didnt. There are a ton of Jewish teachers. When I was of school age, I wasn't really big on sitting in Temple for 3 hours at a time. As an adult, I am.
Before I was a teacher, and worked in Manhattan, there were three "floating holidays" given to all employees. The agency NEVER closed for any Jewish holiday despite the high presence of Jewish employees. The Jewish employees used them for the two days of Rosh Hashanah and the one day of Yom Kippur. Otherwise, the agency only closed on Christmas, Thanksgiving, Good Friday and Presidential Election days.

I just get the regular holidays off- plus my birthday- which you can take anytime after your b-day

Do you work for commerce. Seriously no beef... but I wouldn't want to work for a bank like that I could have stayed in retail

yes, but I dont work in the branches so I work regular mon-fri hours.
but if we work a holiday, like memorial day, we work a short day bc nobody is here, like 9-12...then I get to use a vacation day another time for a full day. so i dont mind at all!
