is france as romantic as they say?

dh and i are going on a european vaction for our anniversary...ray would rather not go to paris, but i think it would be so romantic and it's somewhere we've both never been. i've been to italy and london within the last few years and i really don't want to go back just yet although he wants to go to these places.

a comprimise is a mediterrean cruise but i'm worried about the time at each place and what we'll actually be able to do there. i think i'd rather stay somewhere for the entire week.

but i digress, the real question is how romantic is france? i've heard mixed reviews of this country and would love some opinions!

sorry so long!

Azad, I am SO biased! Paris was our first vacation together, we went for a long weekend. We looooved it. Chat Icon There is nothing in the world like walking around at night, holding hands near the Eiffel Tower.

Just a tip- don't eat the hot dogs. They are gross!

There is a LOT to see if you are into art and history, which is a blessing and a curse. Prioritize what you want most, and stick to it. Don't try to see all of Paris in 24 hours, or you'll lose the romance of it, kwim?

I hope you and Ray go, and have as many wonderful memories as we do! Chat Icon Chat Icon

I love, love, love, love Paris as well.
I have been twice-first in HS and the next time last year for our 1 year anniversary with DH and we would go back in a heartbeat.
The city is just so beautiful- there is so much to do and see it's crazy. The food is just out of this world- we would sit for hours at dinner drinking wine and just soaking in the atmosphere... Both times I have found the people there to be great. We just had the best time and I would recommend going to anyone!

While I don't love the Parisians Chat Icon I LOVE Paris. I have been twice but never with DH. It's truly an amazingly romantic city.

DH also has it in his head to go to the Alsace region, which also seems really quaint and charming.

I have also been to the Loire Valley- there are some amazing chateaux there.

We spent some time in Paris on our honeymoon. It was ok. We stayed at the Four Seasons in Paris and while the hotel was beautiful, there is something about France that got on my nerves. Frankly, I did not even think the food was that good (the pastries are a different story though).

Love Paris....learn a few words (please, thank you, good morning, good night) and use them whenever you can - people will be much nicer to you.

I think it is a very romantic city and will be going back in October.....

this is what we were thinking about Paris but we're going to give it a go. I think it's one of those places we just have to go.

So if I can pull it together before May we'll be going to Paris!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon If not we may have to just close our eyes and pick a carribean island Chat Icon

Yes, it is very romantic! You must go sometime if you can.

I can't remember specific names of hotels, but if you like something "authentic" and with character, try staying on the left bank/Latin quarter.

How much do you want to spend? I know a cute, small hotel that runs about 90Euro a night. It is on a pedestrian street. It is nothing fancy, just a place to rest your head.

Probably about 150-200 dollars a night. I think we want to stay somewhere somewhat nice. As long as it's clean!

Re: is france as romantic as they say?

We were supposed to go as part of our HM trip, but had to change at the last minute due to the riots! We are planning a long weekend in Paris around our anniversary.

I was there many years ago, and would love to go back!

Anyone who wants restaurant recommendations feel free to FM me. My mom was there in October and I was there in 3x in the past 2 years so they are pretty current.
