The Block Party thing

So we are being invited to a few friend's block parties..

The one that is thrown on our block is pretty cheesy so we never bother attending....

But we are thinking of going to a few that we were invited too...

So...what do you actually do at the avg block party?

What do you wear?

Re: The Block Party thing

first bring lawn chairs- you pretty much sit on the driveway, put some tables out, everyone at each house makes food and puts it out on tables, along with beers and cocktails, then you sit around and there is usually a d.j.

its like a bbq, but instad of being in a backyard, you are in the front yard and you chat with differnt neighbors and socialize etc.

the street is usually closed off

as for what ot wear- casual is the word - shorts, flip flops

Re: The Block Party thing

I've only been to a couple and they were boring and cheesy. We are invited to one next weekend and I'm like Chat Icon about going. All you really do is sit around and eat and the DJ plays music that is mainly for kids (at least the ones I've been to). The concept is good but I've yet to go to one that turned out fun. Chat Icon

ETA: As for what to wear - definitely super casual - capris and flip flops with a cute top.

Sometimes people put up volleyball nets or get a kickball or frisbee game going so you might want to keep a pair of sneakers in the car if you are so inclined to participate. Chat Icon

Re: The Block Party thing

Very casual dress because it's usually hot. Definately bring chairs.

Mostly you just hang out. Some get DJ's and those big bouncy things for the kids. It's a lot of fun. Good eats!!!

Re: The Block Party thing

wear as little as possible. it's always HOT at the one's I go to.

IMO, they're pretty boring. all people do is sit around at tables in the street or driveways and BBQ and drink beers. that's fun and all, but after 2 hours it's enough for me. definitely not an all day thing.

the one my friend has hires a DJ, which is cool. sometimes they play games for the kids.

Yeah..they seem to be more for the kids these days but they are always a good excuse to just hang out and have a good time over the summer.

Re: The Block Party thing

Definately bring chairs ---

In my experience it's just a casual thing --- you hang around in the front yard watching people and do a lot of drinking. The one that we go every year to you see a lot of beer pong and people doing shots from carved ice. But I've been to other ones that are more family oriented as well.

I've always just wore capris and a t-shirt to them, they are very casual.

Re: The Block Party thing

I've never been to a BP as an adult. I always thought they were more for kids. We haven;t had one in a long time, because most of the kids on the block grew up (lot of kids around my age) and there aren't that many younger kids anymore
