Anyone have a gas fireplace?

Does anyone have a gas fireplace or know anything about them?

I turned off the gas because the glass front of the fireplace felt kind of hot (and I didn't want the A/C working extra hard to compensate). Now I can't get the fireplace to turn back on. Is there a way I can re-light the gas burner with a match or something or do I have to call someone in to service it???

Hi I just bought a house in Patchogue and it has a gas fireplace. The old owners had turned it completely off and shut the gas off to it,for the summer. They said that when we are ready that we have to turn the gas back on and then there is an ignitor button that you push and that would then turn it on. I hope it helps.

I do. It has a pilot light like a furnace. You have to light it with a match. You will hear the gas hissing and see the spark. Usually where you light it is right by the knob. I keep my pilot off even in the winter time. It scares me.....

Thanks so much!!!!!!!! I guess I have to take off the bottom grate and see if there is an ignitor switch or if I have to light it with a match!
