How do I make our dog happy?

So, I posted on LIW last week that my dad had to put our Golden down... Well we also have a Collie, and now she's so depressed.

Mike was Zoey's "Man"

All she does is mope around. She's attempted to make friend's with my sister's new cat, but the cat will have none of that and swipes at her Chat Icon

My dad wants to get a new dog, but my step-mom doesn't want one, at least not right now (Mike, although a family pet, was really 'her' dog).

Does anyone know how to cheer up a depressed doggie? She's so sad! She just goes to all his favorite spots in the house and lays there... as if she hopes that he'll come back to take it away from her or something Chat Icon

your dog will cheer up on it's own. Each time one of our cats passed, our dog got pretty depressed, but he came out of it once he realized that his buddies were gone.

Give him some extra love, some new toys, some extra attention.Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: How do I make our dog happy?

I agree with Shana. You dog is mourning right now, and it is extremely sad to sit by and not being able to do anything to help. But it is a natural process, and little by little your dog will come out of it. I would advise against getting a new animal right away though - you dog, like us humans, needs his own grieving process. Maybe introduce the idea of a new pet once he's feeling more like himself Chat Icon so sorry to hear this - it's heartbreaking to watch a pet suffer like that Chat Icon
