ETA: I just called my SIL. She was on the last train to get to Seaford before all of this mess - the 5:40 from Penn.

Rush hour trains on the Babylon branch were stopped in both directions 6:30 p.m. tonight in Freeport, a Long Island Rail Road spokeswoman said.
A tarp from a nearby water tower that was being painted was blown onto the power lines which run above the tracks.
That problem also caused congestion problems that resulted in delays of up to an hour on the Long Beach, Far Rockaway and West Hempstead branches.
Officials had no estimate about when normal service would be restored.
Susan McGowan, the LIRR spokeswoman, said the Babylon branch is the busiest branch in the system, normally carrying 20,000 of the railroad's 80,000 rush hour commuter passengers. "We're establishing bus service, but getting enough buses, it's very difficult," she said.
A total of 600 passengers were still stuck on two eastbound trains at 9:30 p.m., because power to the third rail was cut off to allow workmen to move safely about the tracks, McGowan said.
The 5:47 p.m. out of Penn Station and due in Freeport at 6:31 p.m. had 150 stranded passengers, and the 5:45 p.m. from Flatvush Avenu ena due due in Babylon at 6:56 pm. had 450 commuters. Rescue locomotives were sent to tow the stranded trains and their passengers back to station platforms, McGowan said.

I picked up my DH last night in Lynnbrook. He walked from Valley Stream to their and I felt so bad for everyone. We got home around 10pm and he took the 6:33 express

I was on that 6:33 too, a very good friend picked me up at Valley Stream and drove me out to Lindenhurst. I got home at about 9:45.

Yea it was fun last night!
I was on the 6:47 (or thereabouts) to Babylon, and we sat outside Valley Stream for a while, we got out at 9pm to take the jolly school buses home lol.
However, I think I was the most mellow person on that train! I'm 6mos PG, and have been conking out on the train rides home lately.. I was tired and pretty much slept the whole time we sat there. I just woke up every so often and saw it get darker, and darker out lol. at least I got a nice nap out of it!
I was so glad they cleared it up by this morning!
I'd like to know what mental giant didn't secure that tarp over the water tower anyway!!!
