Sound machine in baby's room...

I have the sound machine in Gianna's room that makes the sounds of the ocean ect... I put in on every night so we dont wake her if people are over or when I am getting ready in the morning for work. Last night when we put the baby to bed I turn it on like I always do and DH made a comment saying that he thinks it is a bad habit to turn it on every night because she will get to used to it and than not be able to fall asleep without it. I would like to know your opinions on this...do you think it is ok to keep it on at night? TIA

Actually, I think that is the idea behind having such a thing in the baby's room. You're supposed to send a message to the baby that says "it's bedtime" so that when the baby hears that, he/she knows it's time for bed and he/she can go to bed. I don't think that there is anything wrong with that, unless of course, you run out of batteries lol

i have used a sound machine in my daughter's room since she was born 6 years ago, it is so soothing I want one for my room. Oneday she may ask you to turn it iff, otherwise, if it works do it!

I think that is fine. I have a cd player that plays the most soothing music- brahms lullaby, baby mine, all I have to do is dream, someone to watch over me, etc... Everynight I turn the lights low, put the music on, a little infant massage, give Cari her final bottle and I rock her to sleep. I would say before she falls asleep I get through the whole CD but it is so calming and as I leave the room, I turn it off. SHe sleeps so well with it... Im sure same with the sound machine.

I don't think it's bad to have her fall asleep to it but you might consider putting it on a timer. We put Jake in his crib and turn on the Ocean Wonders Aquarium music which stays on for 10 minutes.

My SILs daughter started the "sleepy time music routine" (a CD player that was set to continuously play a CD) very young also and she is 5 now and still refuses to go to sleep without it.

I see where your DH is coming from. Since the twins were born, we never were "quiet" around them, turn down the TV, etc. We wanted them to be use to the sounds of the house. I think it's worked out well.

However, I don't think it's a bad habit to use the sound machine to drown out some of the background noise. I wonder what would happen if you chose not to use it one evening.

I LOVE our sound machine (white noise). Sidney is still in our bedroom and this helps to make sure we don't wake her. Plus she makes a lot of sleep noises so the sound machine helps so that she doesn't wake me till she really needs to.
