Question for those who had a C section
I was discussing this with DH and we didnt know so I decided to come to the source!
If you have a C section, which seems to me a major surgery, do they give you any kind of pain killer and antibiotic afterwards? If so, is it safe to breast feed while on this?
Thanks.

Re: Question for those who had a C section
I had a c-section and they left the epidural in for two days. After that they gave me motrin and I believe that is safe for bf.

Re: Question for those who had a C section
I had a spinal with my c-section and that medication lasted for 24 hours, even after the numbness wore off. After that they gave me a painkiller in the hospital -- for about 2 days, and then I took motrin after that. All was safe for breastfeeding.

Re: Question for those who had a C section
I had a spinal fro my c/s two years ago and although I was offered percocet, I was able to get by on 800 mg of motrin. All is safe for breastfeeding.

I was induced then the next day they decided to give me a C section. They gave me LOTS of drugs, before, and after... And I still breastfed, So im assuming its ok, if they let me.

Re: Question for those who had a C section
After the epidural came out after 2 days, I was taking Percocet and Toradol. When I came home, I was still taking Percocet, but Motrin instead of Toradol. All are okay with BFing. I also had 24hrs of antibiotics -- Mefoxin, which is also safe while BFing.

I was given an epidural for two days in the hospital, and once that was out, I was put on Percocet. I was able to take that at home and still breastfeed.

Re: Question for those who had a C section
A c/s is major surgery. They work with you on a pain managment plan that fits your needs.

Re: Question for those who had a C section
I was in a lot of pain, I was on oxycotin, it was a wonderful thing. They said it was OK to BF while on that but I didnt like that idea so I tried not to take it. Im 2 mos PP and tyhe incision is healed but I still have numbness and soreness and was taking painkillers until about 4-5 wks PP
