RE-post from FHF- Need Help with Fundraiser-We set a date- UPDATE

I posted a few weeks ago about a friend of mine that was suddenly diagnosed with Hodgikins Lymphoma. She is 26 yrs old and has 2 children. She will be starting Chemo on Friday. I need to raise 500.00 ASAP. I have seen fundraisers on here, but i dont know how to start one. Can any one help me? Ill start a run/walk, anything to help the family.

We will be hosting a fundraiser for Nicole and her family and hopefully raise awareness about Hodgkin's Disease on Friday, July 21 at Jack's Place in Babylon Village. DIrectly across from The Babylon Train Station. The fun starts at 7pm. Raffles, prizes, drinks, and good times for a good cause.

If you only need the $500 ASAP what about a huge yard sale? You could get all the families that are involved with your friend to get together and sell all their un-needed stuff for the cause.

What about contacting a local bar to see if they can host it? I know some bars will have live music, which draws people in. You can post flyers and have a table set up to accept donations.

When I was raising money for a breast cancer walk the garage sale idea seemed successful according to people on the message boards. People may not want to donate $, but they might have stuff to donate to a yard sale.

What about approaching a local restaurant and working out a deal to have a benefit there? I see it all the time where you buy tickets to get dinner or what not. The restaurants will frequently give a discounted pp charge and everything over the price of the meal goes to the family.

At the benefit, you can sell raffle tickets -- 50/50's are sooo easy (and honestly for something like this, the winner may donate their half or a portion of it).

Maybe auction off some prizes -- either in a penny auction style or with a more traditional one. Approach local vendors for gift certs or prizes, things like that. Most places are happy to donate to things like this. Tell them that you will be making a flyer thanking all the contributors to the event -- that's free PR to these places.

contact the Leukia/lymphoma society- I remember them coming around offering my Dad money for parking when my Mom was at MSKCC ( solan Kettering) for months on end

and I would love to help you with anything- My Mom would have wanted to help your freind

Thanks Ladies.
I am going to try the garage sale, and my mom just bought a bar so we are going to organize something there.
Does anyone have ideas of what we can do to make the night fun and raise more money?
I have to talk to my friend make sure its ok with her and then ill give information, if anyone is in the area on that day, maybe you can stop in.
The bar is in Babylon.

I told DH and we are going to try to come. My Uncle had Hodgkins and I agree awareness is a MUST. ITs a sad disease....I am praying for your friend! Its sad how many younger people get it and If I cannot make it, can you FM me your email address to send a check or A paypal account if you have one. I do want to contribute finacially to the fund for sure.
