question about cleaning 3 month old baby's ears
my son's ears are so dried up with stuff it is so disgusting.. It is actually just one ear. Is that a sign of infection? It gets so caked on, even though I give him a bath every night. How can you clean a baby's ear? I heard you were not to use a q tip. It is not only inside his ear it is all around Is this normal? thank you for any ideas ang stories

Re: question about cleaning 3 month old baby's ears
My daughter's ears rarely need cleaning at 1 year old ... but I don't know if it necessarily means that there is an infection if they do.
I would give the pediatrician a call about it tomorrow and ask what you can do to clean them. He/She might ask you to come in to just double check that there isn't an infection.

I use (and still use) a warm washcloth. I've also used a Q-tip w/out touching the inside of the ear. *Some* wax is good and necessary. If you feel it's too much or that it's irritating him I would mention it to his ped.

no it doesnt mean infection I have asked my dr about this a few times because Bryan tends to have alot of wax, he said too use a washcloth around your pointer finger to clean them. Q tips arent good.

#1 I read somewhere that it isn't good to give your kids a bath everyday. Something with the skin getting so dry because the oils are washed away.
#2My daughter gets the same thing with her ear. It is from the shampoo from the bath, so when your done giving a bath just clean it with a qtip but get the qtip that has the bumper on it, it basically stops you from going too far.

Re: question about cleaning 3 month old baby's ears
I've been using the safety Q-tips since Julia was first born and I never had a problem with her ears. I would try the safety ones to clean them.

Could also be Cradle Cap. They can get it on their ears. Sidney had it behind her ears and it is like caked on dirt. I put olive oil on it then bathed her and then scratched/peeled it off. took a couple of tries.

Same here....also try giving a bath every other day, too frequent bathing can really dry their skin out

You can use Deborex (spelling?) to get the wax out. It's an over the counter solution. A few drops in & it will get rid of the wax. Also I use the safety Q-tips too (fat on the outside so you can't go in too far with the tip).
