I am making a new law
Mandatory road tests for those already licensed over the age of 65.
I was just driving home, and some old bitty on the Meadowbrook could barely see over the wheel, looked like she was dead and was propped up with a stick, and was doing 10 miles an hour going in and out of her lane.
And to boot, she had one of those "Be careful, my grandma is in this car" license plate frames.
Yeah, we definately SHOULD be careful, cause your grandma is a friggin hazard.

I TOTALLY AGREE!!!!!
I got blind sided by an 85 yr old man..my first car accident and he got out of the car and yelled"You teenagers think you own the road; I've been driving for 60 years and never got into a car accident"
He had canes and walkers in his trunk! The accident was totally his fault! UGH!

I agree. There are some people over 65 who drive perfectly fine. But there are many OVER the age of 65 who don't. Their reaction times are not as sharp and their ranges of motion are limited. My mother is 74 and my father drove until he was 77 - the year before he passed away. My mom was not given medical clearance to drive after her back injury last year.
I realize that not being able to drive has a direct effect on one's independence. It is a mark in life that none of us look forward to. But if it comes down to my safety or the safety of my children in the future as opposed to someone's independence... OH WELL. SORRY! No car for you!

so true!! I work insurance and get too hear it all and its pretty bad!!
I was on the north side of 135 and looked to my left and some old lady was driving on the other side of parkway going in the SAME DIRECTION I WAS!! 
I dont know how that one ended up!

I would love for you to get this made into law.
Every year my dad would take my grandmother for a road test on his own. Because it was always around our neighborhood & her neighborhood, he never realized how bad her dementia was getting.
She was pulled over going southbound on the northbound Sagtikos Parkway. My dad took her keys away & told her that the police took away her license (completely not true). The fact that she could have driven away afterwards was beyond disturbing. We were alll lucky it happened the way it did & that no one got hurt.

A few weeks ago I almost got slammed by a carload of old bitties...the woman ran a red light and she's lucky I can still see because we all would have been killed...

my grandpa is almost 80 and still drives even though he shouldnt....
and the worst part his, he is a retired nassau county cop, so he never ever ever gets a ticket, even though he deserves it!

O M G YES
We saw an old man slam into 2 PARKED cars the other day...cars that were on OPPOSITE sides of the road !!!!!!!!!!!!!
he split HIS head open and had to go to the hospital..

I agree- there was a fatal accident Thurs. up where I live- a 91 year old man and his 84 year old wife were killed when exiting I-84. The man blew the stop sign at the end of the exit ramp, and someone broadsided them. Their car flipped over.

When we first moved down and I had to change my license over their was a guy who looked like he was a day older then dirt renewing his license. This is how his renewal went:
DMV: sir please read the letters in the 5th row.
Man: oh all right. uh W G 5 square 9
DMV: sir their are no numbers or shapes. please read line 4
Sir: yes. uh J L 3 G
DMV: sir read line 1. and their are no numbers
Sir: E R T Y F
DMV: sir step to the righ to get your license

it scares me when i see people driving like this - some seniors are greta drivers but others just aren't and are a hazard to themselves and the others around them on the rd!
