I was on the metformin for almost a year with no ovulation before we moved on to Clomid

Re: PCOS girls - how long before Clomid?
I did the opposite and I was on Clomid first before Metformin
I went to an OBGYN who had never heard of Metformin and told me Clomid would solve all my problems.
When I went to the RE I was on Met for a month only then moved back onto Clomid.
But we also had male factor, so that was a deciding factor in moving on to other means.

Re: PCOS girls - how long before Clomid?
I was on metformin for 2 months and it started to sort me out. So the next 2 months I was ovulating, but I was ovulating late and LP was on the shorter side, so we decided to go to clomid which was supposed to help with those things.

Re: PCOS girls - how long before Clomid?
Well I started Metformin in late January/early February and I was suppose to take 1500 mgs which I never did. The most I took were 1000mg and not consistently. The side effects took a toll on me, I hated the after taste. I'm actually starting back the met tonight (500 mgs) then I'll build myself back up slowly. I just started taking Clomid on Friday. If I were you I would try taking the Met for a couple of months to see if you ovulate, if not then maybe move onto Clomid. Good Luck!
