The Choking Game
STORY
I had not heard of this till today. One of my students wrapped the cord from the window shade around his neck during another class today. Two other kids brought it to my attention. His mom thought I was overreacting and that the kids were lying.  My AP told me later that it's a game so I did a little research. It's scary.

My 2 little SILs did this to each other!!! They're 11 and 12 years old. I LOST IT when my MIL told me about it. I kept telling the older one (the younger wasn't home at the time or she would have heard it too) do you realize you could DIE doing that???

We had this in our Spring Assembly and none of the kids took it seriously. Unfortunately it is one of those things that very few people take seriously until it hits close to home.

I remember friends doing something similar when we were in grade school. They called it "putting someone out" and the person would hang over with the arms dangling and another person would come up behind them with their arms and put upward pressure on their chest.
I never did it, but I remember watching on the playground.
Wow that was 1988 when I remember it!

How stupid... I remember "friends" doing this in Junior High on trips. I think they called it "The Hawaiian High"...not quite sure who came up with that brillant name .
Some @hole even put a picture in the yearbook of one of the girls half out from one of those...

We had a big presentation on this at my faculty meeting. I have so many notes about it. They have so many different names that they call it. There is a young child (elementary age) who died, and this may have been the reason. It is soooo scary. As a teacher, we all need to be aware of this, and have our eyes open. Because NO ONE is to young for this.
