Help me decide on a digital camera- GOT ONE! (UPDATED 6/10/06)

I am still back and forth on this, mostly because I am thinking of when we go away. Overall the S3 is a better photography camera, but I am concerend with it's size being inconvenient for travel. In terms of vacationing and travel, what does everyone think? TIA AGAIN!

I am really undecided about getting a new one, but if I do, I have narrowed it down to these:

DH did a lot of research and he wants the S3

Without a doubt the S3. I have the S1 and it's an awsome camera. The S3 has more MP and more zoom so it's got to be even better.

I'm not familiar with the camera but since my camera is big, I'll give you my 2 cents.

You never know when you're going to get a great shot. If I were to buy a little point & shoot camera to take on vacation, it would drive me crazy not to have the best camera to get the best shot. Not to have the largest resolution I can to crop what I want, etc. So while it's convenient to have a smaller camera, until they're up to the quality of the bigger one, I'm lugging mine.

I take my S1 which is the same size as the S3 on vacations and day trips it's not a problem but you need a case for it - this is not a "throw in your purse or knapsack" camera. It's a bit large for that and the lense cover can pop off if it's knocked around. I found a great little Sony camera bag at Best Buy that is exactly the size of the camera so I just pop it into that and pull it out when I see a great shot. I carry it whenever we head out east, to the Duck's games, parties, etc. and just sling it over my shoulder like a purse. When I went to Alaska I had a slightly larger bag that held this camera, a smaller camera and a tiny tabletop tripod, then I just pulled out the day-bag for carrying around. I'm getting ready to upgrade to the SLR 30D because I've had so much fun with this camera and I'm ready to push the limits further.

So, I decided on the Canon S3 IS. I ordered it from BUYDIG.COM- I got the best price through them after comparison shopping all over. I paid 6.95 for the faster shipping and it arrived in two days! Now I am no professional photographer, but this camera is AMAZING. I absolutely love it. There is so much to learn about operating it, but that doesn't bother me. Here is a Pic of our Sylvie- I have been having fun practicing with it!
