BF-ing moms, are you taking BCP?
I was a bit alarmed when I was reading the package that my BCP came in. It said that there is a one in 20 chance of becoming pregnant the first year of using these pills. I think they're called Camilla? Now, why in the world would I trust that? Is anyone else taking these?

I took the mini-pill with my first child and didn't like it. It's VERY time sensitive and very little room for error.
Now I'm on the Mirena IUD.

Is this the mini pill - just progesterone (I never noticed the name of mine). Since it isn't a full BCP you have to be very consistant with the time you take it. Not like missing a day on regular BCP.
We never fully trusted it either.

The reason is because BFing moms have to be on progesterone only pills (the mini pill) and they have a higher risk of pregnancy with them. It is very important that you take them at the exact same time every day which really lessens your chance of getting pregnant. You can't miss a day and double up and feel safe on the mini pill either. Since its missing the estrogen component its effective but just not as reliable or error friendly.

My OB told us the use condoms while I was BF'ing (before I was preggo we did the rhythm method and I charted). I can't be on any BC pill because I get heart palpitations on almost all of them and I have a heart condition.

Look into the IUD- the 10-year old has NO hormones and can come out when you want to TTC again. It is a great form of birth control and NO issues with BFing.
That mini-pill is VERY sensitive and must be taken at the same time every single day.

Totally agree. I was on the mini pill for a year (same brand as you Rach) I just made sure to take it at the same time everyday

You don't have to be on only progesterone. Some OB's will give a prescription for the combo pills, but many advise against itbecause, even with a well established supply, the supply may decrease substantially.

im on the mini pill i havethe generic one and havqe been on it for 6 months i was told as long as i take it around the same time each day i will be fine. when the bqaby cries its a reminder. and was told its 99% effective. no side affects for me its a low dosage.

I'm just too afraid to trust it. I do NOT want another baby anytime soon, and I am not sure I care to chance it with such high odds.

My ob gave me a prescription for the mini-pill, but I decided not to take it for these reasons. I really didn't want to go back on the pill anyway. My ob said as long as you take it within an hour before/after you should be okay, but I know I would forget.
