regifting? is this really bad of me??

So i have to get my step mom a birthday gift she is in her late 60's. So i was just going to go the store tomorrow after my drs appt. I happen to open a drawer i havent opened in months to get some stuff for my hospital bag packed and i see this silk scrarf that my moms friend had given me. its soooo not for me and would be perfect for say... someone in their late 60's Chat Icon

I have never worn it. Its clean and brand new. Sjhuld i send her that or should i really buy a new gift?

BTW she lives out of state and technically is not my stepmom anymore b/c they got diovorced her and my dad but remained the best of friedns i am not particularly close with her what do you think? be honest?

i might be wrong in saying this but everyone regifts. it's not the price of the gift, if the scarf is perfect for her than i say it's the perfect gift!

If you think she would like it, I would definitely send it to her. The bigger shame would be to let it go to waste in your drawer. Chat Icon

IMHO, I would NEVER regift and don't think everyone does. there are plenty of us who don't. But, that's just me.

I agree! I have re-gifted in the past. things like frames, bottles of wine, etc.

if you have no use for something and someone else does, why not?

I don't like to regift, but if you are seriously enver going to use it, then definitely give it to her.

In those cases I'd end up "re-gifting" it to the church clothing drive anyway....

Go for it! I still think it is a nice gesture considering she is no longer married to your dad and that you are taking the time in thinking of her on her BD. Sometimes Regifts are the greatest gifts. If it would make you feel less guilty, add in another accessory.

I think under the circumstances that you're being thoughtful remembering her birthday.

I don't regift but have no problem giving something away that I can't use. I'm thrilled when someone can use something I dont' want.

What about giving her the scarf along with something else that she might like?

Re: regifting? is this really bad of me??

Think of it this way...what if you brought it back to a store, retruned it and used the money to buy her something? NO ONE would say anything about that right? So why should you feel bad about just sending the actually gift you have that she will like?

Its not a gift anymore. Its something you have, you feel she would like. Who says a gift has to be a brand new purchase anyway?

Re: regifting? is this really bad of me??

i have only regifted once..but i prefer to call it paying forward. we registered for a cappucino (sp?) machine..6 months and a hundred trials later, we could not figure out how to use it. i put a bow on it and gave it to a friend for her bday and she uses it all the time. she figured out how to use it in a week!! she loved it and i paid it fwd! Chat Icon
