Buying stuff early for the baby?

I went to my Grandmas this weekend - first time I have seen her since announcing pregnancy. She had 2 gifts for the baby on the table and I said, no grandma it is too early, I think I hurt her feelings, I said I didn't want to open them. I don't know what is making me feel this week. I am 11 weeks, the Dr. said everything is good, I am just afraid to start the room and stuff like that and especially to except presents from other people.

anyone feel this way? I wanted to be the one to buy the first pj outfit, stuff like that, etc. I really don't know why this bothered me so much.

I did open them and they are the cutest little outfits, some all Blue, when we don't even know the sex yet.

Re: Buying stuff early for the baby?

I am on the bit of the superstitous side, and sometimes i think, if i get this it will jinx me. I even went through this buying maternity clothes. My mom literally dragged me into motherhood.

Even now, I still have that urge sometimes, even though I know she is fast approaching, I takes more energy to convince myself it's okay to buy.

I would have been the same way in your situation, my SIL bought me whole bunch of stuff early too, and I loved the outfits, but was apprehensive about opening them.

I think it's PURE superstition! I am getting better, we just bought diapers and wipes, and our carseat that the color was being discontinued

Re: Buying stuff early for the baby?

i only started to plan the nursery once we found out the sex at 20 weeks. so far the only items i have bought are the furniture set and an unused co-sleeper @ 1/2 price from a co-worker.

i have accepted hand-me-down clothes and a couple bouncy play things that people just want to get out of their house at this point.

i am procrastinating with the stroller, carseat, bedding, etc. because i just can't make up my mind (and the thought of spending so much $$ makes me want to vomit)!

i am surprised that i have yet to buy any clothing, but i don't want to go crazy before i have the basic necessities down pat.

I think if it were something neutral in color it may have been ok... As I am sure she is just excited.

I too don't have a single thing at home for our baby and I only have 55 days to go.
I plan on going shopping at the end of this month to pick up everything I need.

I know it is hard not to buy stuff for the baby early on--do what makes you feel comfortable.

I too have a hard time buying stuff. I'm almost 30 weeks, and it just doesn't sit well with me. I don't know why.

I haven't bought anything for the baby, but I have been given gifts for the baby from family members. They are all just so very excited and so looking forward to having a baby running around.

Re: Buying stuff early for the baby?

I got a couple of things from people as a congratulatory gift when I got PG. One was a pregnancy journal, some magazines, a baby name book and some other things. I loved getting them! But, I could see how getting gifts for the baby would be a little weird. Grandma's don't think of that though, she was probably just so excited that she is going to be a great grandma.

i was superstitious like that , too. but Chat Icon got the best of me and we started buying when we found out it was a boy! my bloodwork was all normal and i was progressing and he's been growing normally, despite a little hiccup, so everything is good!

As soon as my mom found out she went and bought a "I LOVE MY GRANDMA" bib. It's cute, and I love that she is so excited. It's never too early!!

Re: Buying stuff early for the baby?

I didn't want my family buying anything for me at all the first trimester and they respected and understood that. But once I found out I was having a girl, two weeks ago, they've been buying like crazy, and it's completely welcomed nowChat Icon
