I think I'm going to change it. I've had my hair layered for a long time now

if its one lenght then there are almost no layers. there will be a few in the back, otherwise it won't be even

one length = even cut
layered = not an even cut

One length = easier to do
If you still want a style (unless you're going really short), perhaps you can get an angle at the front?
