cord blood banking - doing it and who with?
I didn't do it for my first, but may do it this time around. Cryo-cell seems to be ok, they actually say they have been around the longest, and they seem to be the most reasonable cost-wise. If you are banking your cord blood, who did you decide to go with and why? thanks!

I went with Viacord. I felt very comfortable with the guy who I spoke with on the phone's knowledge on the developments in cord blood research (it wasn't like he was trying to just sell me) and he sent me volumes of information so that I could make my mind up myself. I also like the fact that they call me regularly to see how my kids are doing and they send me newsletters that contain information on the scientific advances in cord/stem blood cell research.

My doctors recommended Viacord or CBR because they are both research companies. After a long hard debate with hubby about this we opted not to do it. Intial storage fee is $2000 and then a $125 yearly maint. fee...

they negotiate with you and will work out a payment option, don't let the $ issue steer you in not getting it, because IMO it is worth every penny. We have used Viacord for my last 2 kids.

I agree. I used Viacord for my 3 kids and I hope that I, my husband, my child(ren) nor a family member never needs it and that it turns out to be a waste of money. To me, to have a a peace of mind that money was well spent!

In short, banking our newborn's umbilical cord blood enables us to use the stem cells from the cord blood to help treat cancers & other disorders.
