what are the good areas? How are the schools? Job market? etc......

We are heading to Charlotte. I heard different things about the schools. Some good, others not. Did research online, looks like some districts are better then others. Plenty of businesses, DH is a restaurant manager, and they are building more and more every month. I am an Admin Assist. to investment bankers, Bank of America and Wachovia headquaters are down there, so I am not worried. Housing is so affordable that I am not going to stress it.

When DH was down there, he went to a couple of restaurants everyday, and spoke with employees, asking about turnover, and everyone said they had no problem finding a job. Everyone was so friendly and helpful as well.

we were looking down there last year. and almost went. the reason!??! the property in the developments we were looking at were way too small...you were able to pass the sugar through your window into your neighbors.
but anyway, i hear Wakefield has great schools. it's in north raleigh. the homes there are beautiful and there is lots of shopping near everything.

DH and I could move to Charlotte in a HEARTBEAT!!!!! We both work in libraries, so finding jobs shouldn't be too difficult.

Unfortunately, we're staying in NY for a few more years to rack up more time in the NYS pension system.

My MIL lives in Sunset Beach, NC, which is actually 5 minutes from the SC / NC border. It is super affordable but it would be a huge way of life change for us. I'd be able to be a SAHM so the thought has crossed our minds... I know that Raleigh is nice, Asheville...

You can also choose between being in the mountails or near the ocean....I would prefer the ocean!! It's a great state.

I've been down here over 6 years. I live in the Raleigh/Durham area. I used to live in the Charlotte area though. I prefer the Raleigh area, but Charlotte is fine. It really depends on what you're looking for. In Charlotte, some parts of Charlotte are nice. A lot of New Yorkers seem to move to Mooresville, Huntersville, Lake Cornelius area. It's NW Charlotte. It's beautiful there, but definitely more expensive. In the Raleigh area New Yorkers mainly live in either North Raleigh, Cary, Morrisville and Apex. It's beautiful here too. The school districts in the areas I've listed are great. I'm planning on moving back to Apex when my son starts school. The districts there are one of the bests. As far as jobs are concerned, it really depends on what you do? The RTP is the where the Pharmaceutical and Computer companies are. They are also needing teachers here desperately. They are paying sometimes $5,000 sign on bonuses. And also the medical fields are popular because of the many hospitals and Universities here. Now this is in the Raleigh area. Charlotte is big on the banking industry. At least it used to be. But any of the places I've mentioned have a variety of different jobs available. It's just finding what you want that's the hard part. Oh... and the house you posted about it's true... you can get a big house for those prices. But the problem is being making sure it's not in a bad area. I've found a lot of house that are really nice, but are in neighborhoods that I would never live in. There are plenty of houses that are like the one you posted though. You just have to find them! If you're really interested in the area I would definitely make a trip at some point and check it out. It's worth it. Good luck!
