Spinoff to Credit Cards....paying monthly bills w/card?

some of you have posted that you pay your monthly bills with the card and then pay the card off....

WHY? my best friend does this also...puts EVERYTHING on the card and then pays it when the bill comes in

we try to put everything on our card and then at the end of the month we pay it off entirely. We do this because we get cash back. Last month we got $70 cash back. My parents do this too, except they get miles. They have taken my entire family to Alaska on the miles, and I think they want to take all of us to Italy next.

I do it sometimes to get the miles on my amex, either way I am paying the same amount, I might as well get something for it!

We do this with a couple of things with AMEX to get points plus we pay that one online so it's less checks and postage.

Miles. We use our credit card for everything. We almost never pay cash.

points, cash back, security, improve credit rating (postive effect)


if you have credit but don't use it, it could lower your score cause it doesn't show repayment history.

We did this for our wedding - charged everything and paid it all in full once the bill came - to get points. We've got 2 r/t tickets to anywhere burning a hole in our pocket

Does anyone know if you can pay Countrywide this way. I would love to pay my mortgage this way and get AirTran points :)

I stated in the other post that we charged everything last year, but then we had this huge bill at the end of the month. It didn't help us pay down any of the debt that we originally had on the account. We only charge gas and food now.

Having read some replys here, I think it is important to note that DH and I spend less than $100 a month in cash. So we are really careful about credit and how we use it. To use cc's wisely I think you need to know your spending habits. Also, look arround for the best card for you. We like general cash back, I know people who have a GM card that gives them money specifically for GM cars, others like airline miles, and others like store specific cards. It just depends upon your spending habits.

Like other responses, we get cash back on the card we use most of the time. Towards the end of the year when we have hit the limit of how much cash we get back on that card, we switch everything to a different card and we get points towards a new car. We can carry those points for up to 4 years, so they can really add up and help towards the downpayment on a car.

We do it this way to get points/cash back. and over all convience. I love not having to think about my cell phone bill or other utility its just done!

Wejust do it with Cablevision. I think it was goign tobe late once, so we did it online , but you couldn't sign up for it to be a 1 time thing.
When we had dial-up, that was on my CC too, but I think it had to be.

Groceries & my train ticket, we use the debit acrd for.

I use my Macy's card a lot & then pay it right back, b/c they often have an extra discount for CC customers & sometimes I get free bras too!

As everyone has already said, we use our credit card for monthly bills so that we accumulate more points, and build up good credit, since we always pay our bills off in full.

AS my DH says, "its a better way to float your money". We use of cc to buy, and pay off in full at the end of every month. We get our cash back and points too.

i hardly ever use cash. I pay everything with my credit card and then pay it off at the end of the month. I get cash back or frequent flier miles.

I get miles, and if there is a problem I can take it up with the cc company. ALso you keep the $$ that much longer in your account. Say you put phone bill on cc...due Feb 15. So cc pays phone Feb 15...but you don't have to pay cc until say March 8. So that is almost a month more time you have the cash in savings or wherever.

I would not suggest this method to people who don't pay their cc in full tho!

We did the same for our wedding, then used the miles to buy the tickets for our honeymoon. Two round trip first class tickets to Aruba cost us $92 total!
