Was anyone on weight watchers prior to becoming pregnant?

I ask because I did weight watchers for 4 years out of college...lost 45 pounds in the first year and maintained that loss for the last three.

Its been a little difficult for me seeing myself gain weight, and i do know its for a great cause...but I do feel i've put on too much at this point. The baby only weighs something like 9 ounces right now and at 19 weeks I've put on about 13/14. I just see my face/chest/butt getting fuller and I haven't exercised as much as I should.

I guess this is more of a vent than anything-i have such demons!! I feel great one minute and happy about my growing belly, and the next minute i don't see a belly but rather just "Fat" everywhere. Can anyone else relate? How did you deal with it?

You just described exactly how I feel. I wish I knew an answer to make those "bad" feelings go away, but I don't. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Was anyone on weight watchers prior to becoming pregnant?

YES! OMG, I totally know how you feel! I lost about 23 pounds in 7 months on WW before becoming PG. I also was working out at Curves and doing urban rebounding at my house. Even though it was only 23 lbs., I needed to loose 30 to make goal. Plus with the working out, my clothes started to fit really well, and I thought I looked fit and healthy. Last summer I wore a tankini, first time since college that I was not in a one piece with a BIG tee shirt over it.
Then, in August I got pregnant. I had just bought all new clothes in small sizes and gave away ALL of my "fat clothes". I so wanted that part of my life (being fat) to be OVER! Well, we got PG on our very first try and I had to go out an get all new maternity clothes pretty much right away. Don't get me wrong, I am thankful to be preggo, I just though it would take a few months to get pregnant. I mean I had 7 more pounds to go to make goal, I would have liked to make goal before I got pregnant. I am almost 35 weeks and at my last Dr's visit I was up 34 lbs. ! Chat Icon
Oh well, I still have my "skinny clothes" in my closet with the tags still on them. It will give me the motivation to loose the baby weight ASAP. Plus, I hope to breast feed and workout so I hope it will come off fast. I am so afraid of being one of those mom's who let themselves go. My mom was like that and I saw how it effected her health. Since I have had a weight issue since I was 14, it is something that really scares me.

I was on WW right up until I got PG. I lost 50lbs in 5 months. I loved WW. I also worked out a lot. But when I got PG I wasn't allowed to workout anymore (which is hard for me) so let's just say that I put on 10 lbs. in 15 weeks, and I have no muscle anymore. Chat Icon I am definitely not used to gaining weight, but there's nothing I can do. I just started walking last night and I bought some free weights for my arms. I know it's not going to do much, but it might make me feel better. I actually put on more than that because I had surgery so I wasn't allowed to work out the month prior to getting PG. Chat Icon

With my son I worked out for 4 years and lost 50lbs before him. I was so skinny and cut. I loved it. But, once again I wasn't allowed to workout and with that whole PG I gained 65 lbs. He was a BIG baby, and mostly belly, but I couldn't believe how much weight I gained. I worked out for over a year without losing any of that baby weight until I joined WW and then I lost the rest. After this baby I will once again go back onto WW. I believe it's the best weight loss program out there. I've tried a lot of them!

The only thing you could do is try to workout, eat decent and just go with the flow. You can only control how much you gain with a PG by so much. Everyone, even tiny girls could gain a lot or a little weight and each will carry it differently. Try not to let it get you down. It's hard for me to because at least with my son I was PG over the winter so I got a way with long pants and big shirts. Now I'm going to be huge over the summer, I'm already embarrased because my legs/thighs are already fat and flabby, and it's going to keep me from wearing shorts since the only one's they make out there are VERY short.

Anyway, enjoy being PG and just remind yourself that the "baby fat" is going to go where it wants to go! Chat Icon

Re: Was anyone on weight watchers prior to becoming pregnant?

It can be hard, I know... but speaking from the other side, 6 months post-partum, it will be OK. I lost about 25lbs about 5 years ago, so for the last 5 years or so I've just been maintaining by eating right and working out. I ALWAYS had weight issues, not so much because I was terribly overweight, but because I had a mother who harped on me constantly. So, when I got pregnant, I was soooooe excited, but at the same time, watching my body morph into a shape I had given up a few years back was definitely hard to swallow at first. Some days I felt glorious with my beautiful belly and other days, I felt so depressed that the body I had worked so hard for was gone, just like that, POOF. Didn't help that my mother continued to harp on me throughout the pregnancy about watching what I was eating so that I wouldn't gain too much weight Chat Icon I ended up gaining 45+lbs, which is a lot considering I have small frame. But, now that I'm on the other side, I can tell you, just enjoy the time that you have now with your baby inside of you. The weight *will* come off, especially if you breastfeed. I lost all of my pregnancy weight within 10 weeks, and now I'm finally working on losing the last 10lbs I've needed to lose for years now... and to be honest, losing the weight hasn't been hard at all. After about 3 months of recovery, I was in good enough health and had the motivation to get back into my old routine, and once I did, the weight has been slipping off every week. So, my point is, you'll find your motivation after you deliver, so in the meantime, enjoy these times because I can assure you, you'll miss it Chat Icon

Yes, thank you to ALL of you for your posts!! It means a lot to hear others going through it.

I hate sounding vain or selfish at all...I LOVE that i'm pregant and this miracle is taking place....but to think that just in september on my honeymoon i was in a two piece bathing suit for the first time in YEARS, its just funny to see my body now! One day i'm like WOW I LOOK SO PREGNANT !! I love it!! And the next...i feel i have just a big ol fat belly and fat thighs/face, lol...

I know i'll go back on WW after the baby and really try to work on losing and toning. I really will try to enjoy this stage of life, I guess i just have slight mental problems where it comes to weight gain!!

Re: Was anyone on weight watchers prior to becoming pregnant?

I, too, was on WW before getting pregnant and had just started to lose weight and feel good again. I had a REALLY hard time at first with accepting the weight gain, but the more I think about, the more it is motivating me for when I have the baby. I don't think I have ever been so excited to start eating right and exercising again! I look forward to the day I am back on WW and working outChat Icon

That is a very very positive way of looking at it, and I think thats great!! I will try to do that too....my aunt actually started up WW after her baby and looks better now than prior to pregnancy...she should be my motivation, but all I want now is FOOD and FOOD and more FOOD, lol!!
