This is the same exact thing with my friends too- I always provide all the food and drinks- and then I have some friends who always request that we bring our own! Rude!

Bring your own alcohol - yes because everyone likes something different
As for food and soda, etc - that is really odd!! Why not just order dinner out if the host doesnt want to cook? And the host should provide snacks.

Meaning they provide nothing for you to eat? We have BBQ's with friends and they will provide hamburgers, chicken, etc and ask everyone to chip in with sides and desserts. But I think its odd to invite people over and ask them to bring all of their own food. That's just rude IMO.

I can totally understand bringing our own beer and what not because we all drink something different, but they want us to bring like soda and stuff. And he even said, "Bring whatever you want to eat for dinner and maybe some soda, and other stuff you'd like to share with everyone." EXCUSE ME? Now I have to SHARE?
Omg, that is totally ridiculous! I could NEVER ask people to do that!!!
I mean, its nice when they bring desert or a bottle of wine, but I don't expect it, and certainly would never TELL them to!!!!

My family is very picky and they all drink different things. I supply for holidays and what not.

After I had Ava, all of these same friends came to my home and no one brought us a damn thing. Infact, they ATE most of the food we had.

I'm 27 years old. My friends are 27 years old. When I invite them to my home, I provide food and drinks, etc.
So why is it that everytime someone else has a party, they always tell us, "Bring what you plan on eating and drinking?"
Am I being b-tchy by expecting to not have to bring my own food and drinks everywhere at 27 years old?
This drives me crazy when people do this. Makes you wonder how they were raised. I have a couple of friends (not many though) who are like this and I think it's bc they dont think of themselves as "adults" yet (we're 29  )

Update:
So, a couple of our other friends were also highly annoyed by the whole bring whatever you want to eat crap, so we all got together and went out to dinner before we went to our friends house
Then when we showed up and wanted to know where the food was for them to eat, we said they should have gone out to eat with us
It HAD to be done!

I personally never heard of this bring your own stuff [email protected] I bring my own toilet paper too,just in case I gotta pee while at your house? 
When our friends come over,they are our guests and are treated as such,just like I am at their homes.
We do however have certain friends that we go the extra mile for,as they do for us. Basically 2 sets of friends...the chip & dip crowd and the steak/shrimps on the BBQ crowd- problem is on the rare occasion when they overlap.
Once my sister and I (with our DH's) went over to a mutual friends house soon after she gave birth. We both brought gifts for the baby and decided between the 2 of us that I'll bring over the wine,my sister some pasteries.
She never opened the wine or any other drinks for that matter,just handed us each a small water bottle and stuck the pasteries in the fridge saying something like she needs to watch her weight now. *** ????
These are the same friends that have the amazing ability to forsee the exact second we sit down to dinner to just "happen to be in the neighborhood,decided to pop in" kinda thing.
We never-ever call them over anymore,do they not get the point?

thats te same type of people that crash at other peoples houses whenever they want to, and that ask you for help moving on your day off

That is great! I never go to peoples houses empty handed. I always offer to bring something this way it is their choice too. I hate going places and being told bring this or that. I am not a big potluck person. If we are hosting a a party we supply everything, if people bring alcohol or food that is up to them

I was brought up to serve food/drinks to company and to bring something when I visit the home of others.
I would NEVER ask people to bring their own basic drinks and food . . .
