Moving around school age kids-good or bad?

We moved a lot and I think we all benefited from it. I love that I saw different parts of the country. I also make friends really easily.

any thoughts?

I would say it depends a lot upon the kids personalities. I know it would have been hard for me. I was very shy, so making friends wasn't the easiest even when I knew people forever, so I don't think moving around a lot would have been good for me.

If you had a chance to move away, but had children is school, would that be a huge deciding factor?

I think it depends on the age. Between 8-10th grade, I went to three different schools in 3 years. It really messed up my class placement. Math classes were not the same in each school, so while I was in precalc in 8th grade, in 9th I was put into sequence 2 (moving backwards), and in 10th precalc again. I was also put back in French. I had started French classes in 4th grade, but in NY was put in French 2 in 9th grade because that was where everyone in my grade was. I wound up taking 10 AP classes in high school, but each school has a different curriculum and it was so difficult relearning everything. It was also hard making friends--in high school it gets very cliquey, and I went to different schools (in different states) for 9th and 10th.

I envy the relationships DH has with guys he's known his whole life, but I don't know if it is good that none of them will ever know another geographic area because they are all so unwilling to consider leaving.

Yes I could see how HS would make it more difficult than grammer school.

One of my sisters went to 3 different HSs but she was able to make a smooth transition. I could see how courses would make it more difficult.

My parents moved us when I was 9 and my brother 6, not far corona , queens to wantagh, long island but when youre a kid it seems like a HUGE change but you know I liked it, we moved to a huge house with a backyard and pool so the benefits were better too, I am sure I will be moving when my kids are in school too.
