Paramount cuts ties with Tom Cruise: WSJ 59 minutes ago
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Viacom Inc.'s Paramount Pictures unit is ending its 14-year relationship with Tom Cruise's film production company because of the actor's offscreen behavior, the company's chairman said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal.
Sumner Redstone, Viacom chairman, said the behavior of the star of the "Mission: Impossible" series and "Top Gun" was unacceptable to the company, according to the Wall Street Journal story e-mailed to reporters.
Cruise, one of Hollywood's biggest stars, has been known more recently for his antics on U.S. television talk shows, including jumping up and down on Oprah Winfrey's couch to declare his love for Katie Holmes and criticizing the use of antidepressant drugs.
"As much as we like him personally, we thought it was wrong to renew his deal," Redstone was quoted as saying in the Wall Street Journal. "His recent conduct has not been acceptable to Paramount."
Cruise's representatives and officials from Viacom and Paramount did not have any immediate comment on the report.

No doubt he's an odd one. I think a lot of it has to do with firing his publicist, Pat Kingsley. His sister is now in charge of it. Kingsley knew how to rein the media in and kept a tight hold on her clients.

really? well then maybe she should have gone with him to the Oprah show, and sat on him before he started this whole wacko Tom-o behavior!!!
what was his reasoning for firing her?

Me too! I hope to not see him again till he makes his comeback on season 25 of The Surreal Life.
I bet his devotion to Scientology also has something to do with this- he's become quite the zealot IMO, and they probably don't want to be connected to him when he finally gets beamed up to the mother ship.

He has enough money to make his own movies - a la Mel Gibson  . We have not seen the last of him.

I definitely think it's a financial decision.
I think his behavior turned a lot of people off - and as a result, MI3 didn't make half of what it was predicted to do.

I agree. I know that i didn't want to see it because i was so damn sick of him.
But I think some of the behavior they are objecting to is his open beliefs about psychology and pharmacutical drugs. How many study execs do you think are on Paxil, Prozac... etc. Vitamins for postpartum depression... PUULLEEAZZZE!

Ditto. I agree after his recent crazy antics...I too am no longer a fan. I really miss those "Cocktail" days of past. Can the real Tom Crisue please stand up???
